Ye Voices Concern Over North West and Kim Kardashian’s TikTok Videos

Rapper Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, has expressed concern over his daughter North West’s TikToks with her mother and his ex-wife, Kim Kardashian. The mother-daughter duo tend to post lip synching and hair and skincare tutorials to their shared TikTok page, which Kardashian runs herself.

Nine-year-old North West is a huge fan of up-and-coming rapper Ice Spice, whose song with singer-songwriter and producer PinkPantheress, “Boy’s a liar”, has seen a huge streaming boost from its TikTok popularity as of late. The pair finally had the chance to meet, which inspired North to dress up as Ice Spice the next day.

Despite the wholesome nature of the video, the internet can still be ruthless. After a clip of Ye speaking about how he does not want his children to be “monetized” by TikTok or Disney, fans of the rapper took to the comment section to post a barrage of negative comments about Kim and North.

Ye’s commentary is receiving mixed reactions across the board. Some support his protective approach to social media when it comes to parenting, and others feel that his point was lost in translation. In the video, Ye also speaks about how modern media favors mothers in custody battles and divorces, which led some to feel that he was promoting misogynistic views.

Rolling my eyes at misogynistic abusive Kanye West suddenly caring about morals & appropriateness because it’s his daughter pic.twitter.com/jd1lFxq7hm

Others feel that Ye’s parenting comments aught to be taken with a grain of salt regardless of the message, due to his many controversies in the past year. Ye has repeatedly voiced his support for former President Donald Trump, espoused antisemitic views, and even wore a “white lives matter” ensemble to Paris Fashion Week. The statement is frequently associated with White Supremacist hate groups.

I'd like to remind you that Kanye West is a Right-Wing Nut Job who openly promotes Antisemitic Conspiracy Theories, lies, and hatred on a near constant basis. Many pointed to what they felt was the hypocrisy of Ye’s argument against exposing their children to explicit content, as much of his own rap career centered on sexually explicit lyrics. Additionally, while some of Ice Spice’s lyrics are suggestive, they center on female empowerment and women’s perspectives on sexuality at large, while some of Ye’s could be viewed as degrading.

Kim Kardashian and North West’s TikTok page (@kimandnorth) has not posted since the dress up video that started it all, and Kardashian is yet to address the controversy either. Kardashian has previously spoken out about not wanting her children to be exposed to her ex-husband’s controversial comments on social media, or have a negative perception of their father. In an interview, she recounted her own positive relationship with her father, and how she hopes for her children to have a similar experience one day.

23-year-old Ice Spice hasn’t posted on TikTok since she met North West either. Given Ye’s previous reactions to criticism, it is likely that they intend to handle the situation privately. Spice’s fans continue to support her through it all, believing one thing to be true about Ye–that that boy’s a liar.
