Why TikTok Is Freaking Out Over The Blue Supermoon
The last blue supermoon until 2037 is happening tomorrow night, and TikTok can not stop talking about it.
A Blue Moon is a second full moon in a single month. The rare phenomenon only strikes once every few years. Space aficionados to astrologers are honing their focus on the rare lunar event, and noting how it could affect the environment, and allegedly several astrological signs.
NPR confirmed that supermoons refer to when the moon appears 8% larger than its usual size in the sky. Blue moons typically reoccur every two and a half years, but blue supermoons are far more rare. The last one occurred in 2009, and the next one will not rise until 2037 according to NASA.
Given the rarity of the astronomical event, social media users are poised to step outside and marvel in all of its glory. Numerous digital creators are answering the public curiosity surrounding the event, which literally only occurs “once in a blue moon” as the idiom goes.
TikTok Reactions
Numerous astrologers have provided advice for spiritual practices for the for you page to follow. Astrology has seen an uptick in popularity in recent years, and in accordance with the ancient practices, everyone is born with signs ruled by the sun, the moon, and more.
Lisa Stardust, a New York City based astrologer, wrote in Today that the blue supermoon will take place in the sign of Pisces, and listed how each sign will be affected. Pisces, a water sign, is known for its emotional depth as one of its primary characteristics.
TikTok favorite astrologer Ryan (@e.mo.tions) advised any astrology followers to make moon water to commemorate the energetic occasion.
TikTok creator AstroKobi (@astrokobi) explained the science behind the phenomenon, and what the term “blue moon” actually means (the moon will not be literally blue.)
Elsewhere, yoga practitioners and other spirituality followers expressed that the rare event is the perfect time to relax. Some offered meditation and manifestation exercises to take in the rarity of the event. In some cultures, manifestation practices are used for emotional healing and good fortune.
Other creators offered advice on how to photograph the blue supermoon on an iPhone through examples of previous full moons.
Folklore alleges that the blue supermoon is great for releasing negative energy and manifesting positive changes into one’s life. Astrologers anticipate heightened emotions, especially for people with Pisces placements in their birth chart. The moon is expected to rise at 9:30 p.m. Eastern Standard Time on August 30, and will likely be visible globally depending on weather conditions.
