What is manifestation?

Manifestation is a pseudoscience self-help strategy that is used to bring one’s personal goals or dreams by focusing thoughts on the outcome. Right now, the hashtag on TikTok for manifestation has over 11.2 billion views with thousands of videos underneath it as well. Many TikTok users are using the app to break down manifestation and how it can be used.

TikTok user @theroadtohannah_ explained the popular sound going around on TikTok. According to some, when they use this sound that has an affirmation, they are getting the things that they hoped for, such as a new love interest or promotion with their job. In the video, she explains that one of the most important steps to manifestation is “surrendering your desires to the universe.” The affirmation referred to in the video talks about not chasing something but instead attracting it is the example needed for surrounding wants to the universe. Everyone, however, manifests differently, as you scroll down the #manifestation hashtag, there are numerous examples of different ways to manifest someone’s wishes or desires.

In another video, a TikTok user explains manifesting by using the moon cycles. According to her, and many people who practice, walking around a lake or pond during a full or new moon is where the energy is the most potent, and by releasing gratitude and thanking the universe for the things that are coming their way, like their wishes they have in mind, these things will more easily come to frutution.
