VIDEO: The Ice Bucket Challenge Is Back...In Korea!

Did you miss the Ice Bucket Challenge? Well folks, it’s baaaack as the viral trend of the summer in South Korea.

You remember the Ice Bucket Challenge! During the summer of 2014, it was the mega-trend that seemingly every celebrity did, dumping ice water over their heads to raise awareness for ALS. It was so big that What’s Trending did two compilations about it.

At any rate, the challenge is making a 2018 comeback in Korea, thanks to Noh Seung-hwan, aka Sean from the hip-hop duo Jinusean. He’s taken the challenge multiple times already. In this one he’s standing next to former basketball player Park Seung Il, who has suffered from ALS since 2002, and he challenged singer and actress Sooyoung, who also took the challenge.

Sean is encouraging donations to the Seungil Hope Foundation, to help build a hospital specifically focused on ALS. Sean also challenged K-Pop supergroup BTS to take the challenge. They declined to do so on video, but tweeted a certificate indicating that the band had made a donation to the foundation.

감사합니다. pic.twitter.com/fKCxdyDQQd

And over the last 6 months, BTS and their fans the BTS Army have raised over $1 million for UNICEF. Sean has been widely praised for his charity work, and has even been called the Number One Celebrity in Korean Charity. And now that the celebrities have done their part, thousands of Koreans have joined in with the hashtag 2018 Ice Bucket Challenge.
