YouTube Takes Over As Title Sponsor of Vidcon After TikTok’s One Year Run
Vidcon has made a major announcement for the 2023 convention.
One of the leading conventions in the digital creator space has announced that YouTube will be making a comeback at the prestigious event.
YouTube reigned as the title sponsor of VidCon Anaheim from 2013 – 2019 and makes its return this year to celebrate the power of online video, uniting creators, fans and brands once again.
According to Vidcon, “During the 2022 event, the platform brought the show to the digital community around the world through sponsorship of VidCon’s official livestream, in addition to a first-ever YouTube Shorts Drive-Thru experience, featuring dozens of creators such as Dream, Tabitha Swatosh, BENOFTHEWEEK and MacDoesIt to serve limited-edition creator-inspired snacks and collectibles to thousands of fans, Industry Track panels highlighting YouTube differentiators like shopping and multiformat creators, and a Creator Track session with MrBeast diving into the YouTube Algorithm, which was one of VidCon’s most attended sessions ever.”
YouTube’s return as title sponsor in 2023 after the convention tapped TikTok back in 2022. Many featured creators on the roster included people like Charli D’Amelio and Khaby Lame. TikTok has not commented on this official change in title sponsorship.
“YouTube has always been an integral part of VidCon because it is one of the biggest players in the digital ecosystem,” said Colin Hickey, Senior Vice President, Operations at VidCon. “We are thrilled to have them return as the title sponsor to help drive our mission of putting digital culture and its creators center stage. We look forward to seeing how they showcase the evolution of the creator ecosystem across all of three of our tracks. The diverse and exciting new batch of top and emerging creators we just added to our lineup for VidCon Anaheim in 2023 is also very exciting.”
VidCon has also announced a set of featured creators for the Anaheim evet including Aaron Burriss, Ben Azelart, Benjamin De Almeida (BENOFTHEWEEK), Brent Rivera, BoomerNa, Bryce Xavier, CalebCity, CaptainPuffy, CelinaSpookyBoo, De’Marcus Shawn (artbydemarcusshawn), Jesus Nalgas, Kat Blaque, Lexi Rivera, Matt Slays, MissDarcei, MsMunchie, Rebecca Zamolo, Sidneyraz, Tabitha Swatosh, Tubbo, The Merrell Twins, The Odd 1s Out, ZHC, and VidCon co-founders John Green and Hank Green. VidCon returned to an in-person convention in Anaheim in June 2022 and welcomed more than “50,000 attendees across four days of programming, with an additional 650,000 unique viewers tuning in via livestream from 150 countries,” according to the event sources. The event featured some of the world’s top content creators including MrBeast, Charli D’Amelio, and Achieng Agutu making their VidCon debut. The convention had more than 100 brands participate including YouTube, TikTok, Roblox, Spotify, Pinterest, Discord, Meta, Epic Games, and Squishmallows.
