Twitter Is Torn to Whether Vine Was Funny Or Not

If you were lucky enough to be a teenager between the years of 2013 to 2017, you are probably familiar with the since-deleted video platform, Vine. The once social media phenomena featured short 7 second videos, that usually were hilarious bits of comedy. It was basically the more-condensed version of TikTok with less dancing and more embarrassing moments.

The platform officially shut down in 2017 after only a few years of immense popularity, as it proved to not be profitable. Many of Vine’s top celebrities and viewers were disappointed by the decision, and were only left with YouTube compilation videos to reminisce on the peak of comedy.

The Debate

While Vine fans miss the platform dearly, some people on Twitter have reflected on the app and question how funny it ~really~ was. ‘Vine’ has been trending all day as Twitter debates if Vine is comparable to TikTok in terms of comedy, and there are some STRONG opinions on both side.

This the one of the first tweets that started it all. The user wrote, “vines weren’t as funny as y’all think they were.”

We have to agree with this user who wrote, “What we won’t do is re-write Vine out of history as a MAJOR influence on social media culture.” Not to start controversy but Vine walked so TikTok could run.

This Vine lives rent-free in our heads, and thanks to Cris, we can relive it. They wrote, “Don’t sit here and say vine wasn’t funny when this gem was around. Y’all chose to blow King Bach and Lele pons who made racist and stereotypical vines.” This is reference to King Bach and Lele Pons who blew up on the platform.

We could not imagine a world where Vine never existed. Seven seconds to make a random clip hilarious- unmatched. But maybe Generation Z has a point. What do you think? Do you think Vine was funny or are you team TikTok? Let us know in the comments. Also do not forget to share your favorite vines!
