Twitter is Now Making Memes out of CDC’S New Covid-19 Recommendations

Recently, the CDC has announced new guidelines, again, for quarantining periods and what to do if you have been exposed to someone with COVID-19. According to the CDC, people with COVID-19 should now “should isolate for 5 days and if they are asymptomatic or their symptoms are resolving (without fever for 24 hours), follow that by 5 days of wearing a mask when around others to minimize the risk of infecting people they encounter.” They also claim that new information or data shows ” that the majority of SARS-CoV-2 transmission occurs early in the course of illness, generally in the 1-2 days prior to the onset of symptoms and the 2-3 days after.”

Twitter responds

Online, many were concerned that the cause behind shortening the isolation period was not due to new evidence, but instead motivated by jobs and employees having to take out 10 days if they are infected. Many immediately brought this response online, noting that the isolation period was formerly 14 days before being shortened to 10.

This issue also comes up when it was revealed that the Delta CEO had asked the head of CDC to cut the quarantine time for those who are fully vaccinated since it impacts the workforce. However, though there were legitimate concerns from many, Twitter has a habit of making memes out of hard or controversial times, and this is no different. Thus, the “CDC recommends” memes were born.

Several of these memes referenced pop culture or literature, like the iconic “Unwritten” by Natasha Bedingfield or the Trojan horse, which can be recognized from The Illiad. Or, maybe even the iconic scene from Legally Blond? Or Taylor Swift’s “All Too Well?”

Though the situation can be frustrating and confusing for most, Twitter usually knows how to respond to the situation with some humor.
