Twitter Cannot Decide How to Feel About Tiffany Haddish and Reporter Lauren Zima’s Awkward Interaction

Unfortunately, there was more drama than Will Smith’s slap on the night of the Oscars. When Entertainment Tonight reporter Lauren Zima referred to comedian Tiffany Haddish’s dress as a “costume,” Haddish made sure to let her know that it was a custom-made dress and not a costume. Now, with the video going viral, many are wondering if Haddish overreacted or if Zima needed to be corrected. Basically, Haddish had changed outfits from the dress she wore at the Oscars to a green dress she wore to the Vanity Fair party. Zima asks her if she “did a little costume change” to which Haddish replies “I’m not wearing a costume. I’m wearing Dolce & Gabanna.”

The minute-long clip, which is incredibly awkward to watch, continues as Haddish explains that “It’s called an evening gown darling… It’s custom, thank you.” She continues “This is what fame looks like. This is what success looks like. This is what money looks like.” Towards the end of the video, she says she is “trying to accomplish a lot before fifty. What are you doing?” Many thought that this was Haddish bragging to a reporter trying to do her job and that Zima, who looked clearly embarrassed the entirety of the clip, understood she misspoke. Others, however, thought the exchange was appropriate and that Zima, who has been a reporter for a few years now, should have known to refer to it as a dress or outfit. Some were not convinced, though, as sometimes outfits like these might be referred to as a “costume.”

Unfortunately, this was not the only awkward encounter Zima had that night. In another video, where she is interviewing Euphoria’s Angus Cloud, he seems to be wanting out of the conversation the entirety of the interview, as he gives her curt answers, usually yes or no, and in general, seems to not want to be interviewed, but Zima continues. At one point after being asked a question, Cloud declines entirely and says “no thank you” in reference to answering a question.

Some, however, felt that this was a usual response from Cloud, who is known to talk slowly and not engage in lengthy conversations. Some, however, felt that Zima should have stopped the interview once she realized he did not want to continue it. One commenter wrote that he was “looking for an exit.” Others felt bad for Zima, noting that she looked like she was having a rough night when it came to interviewing.

Emily Uribe, an influencer invited to the Oscars, said that a lot of people did not seem to like Zima, as she says that a lot of the clips from the interview have many people feeling a bit uncomfortable. Others felt bad for Zima, noting that she looked like she was having a rough night, and others applauded her as they said that this was their “worst nightmare” when it comes to interacting with others, especially if you are a reporter. Overall, there did not seem to be a general consensus on Zima and if Haddish was overreacting. Since Zima was having a hard time with multiple interviews, some wondered if it was just her personality type or the way she interviewed that made people wary of her, pointing out that Haddish’s reaction was normal. Others, however, said that she did not deserve that big of a reaction when it comes to one word about Haddish’s dress and that it made for an incredibly awkward moment.
