Tumblr Allowing Nudity on the Platform for the First Time Since 2018 Ban

The chaotic fandom-obsessed blogging website, Tumblr, announced in a staff post that they are allowing nudity on the platform. This news comes after the announcement of Community Labels where users can filter their posts and the posts they would like to see on their dashboard. Notably, in 2018 Tumblr banned all NSFW content on the site which led to a mass exodus of users from the platform.

“We now welcome a broader range of expression, creativity, and art on Tumblr, including content depicting the human form (yes, that includes the naked human form),” reads Tumblr’s staff post.

This new announcement does come with its limitations. After the news of Community, Labels came out many assumed that the feature was a full overturning of the NSFW ban but Tumblr staff were very careful in stating that the Community Guidelines were still in effect. Now the Community Guidelines have been updated to include nudity on the platform but no more.

“We still don’t allow hate, spam, violent threats, or anything illegal, and visual depictions of sexually explicit acts remain off-limits on Tumblr,” states Tumblr staff.

Matt Mullenweg, the CEO of Automattic (which bought Tumblr in 2019), asserted in a blog post that adult content will never come back to Tumblr. At least, how Tumblr was back in 2018. Yet, Mullenweg is pushing for a more open Tumblr experience.

“…No modern internet service in 2022 can have the rules that Tumblr did in 2007,” Mullenweg wrote.

This new development, like the news of Community Labels in September, had many rejoicing the fact that Tumblr was back, female-presenting nipples and all.

Tumbler finally realized why their site was so popular in the first place lmao.

Twitter users were especially pleased to have another platform they can migrate to now that Elon Musk has bought Twitter. Musk’s proposed plans for Twitter have not been getting favorable reception from users.
