TikToker Calls Out Adoption Agency For Rehoming Adopted Children in Facebook Ads
In a TikTok video, user @Karpoozy, who goes by Kirsta, called out an adoption agency whose Facebook page is full of ads to rehome adopted children. If this was not already alarming enough, Kirsta reads one of the ads, where the poster describes a child like a dog for adoption, naming him as “compliant” and a “good eater.” The post comes from Wasatch International Adoptions, who runs a program called “Second Chance Adoption” that allows the adoptive parents to find a new home for their adopted child.
Kirsta, who was adopted herself, explains the harmful effects this kind of posting can have. For example, she notes that the post says the child is “compliant” which means that if someone had malicious intent, they now know that this child would be easily manipulated. She also noted how dehumanizing the ads were, as she says they use the same language people use to rehome their animals.
In another video, she reviews another post made by the same agency, which describes a child as a “beautiful 8 year old” and is being “relisted.” She notes that this is harmful language again, and one commenter points out that this is the term that “you use on eBay when an item doesn’t sell at the current price.” Many also point out that on Facebook, you cannot rehome animals as it has been banned, but you can rehome humans.
In another video, with a different Facebook page called “Foster Care and Adoption Group,” the poster wishes to find a new home for her adopted child due to jealousy of a younger child, which Krista reminds viewers is a very common thing in children, even those who are not adopted. Even sadder, the girl who would be rehomed is 13, who has most likely been with her family since she was young as she was adopted from China. Kirsta, who brings awareness to the harder sides of the adoptions through her TikTok account, reiterates that if the person had said “dog” instead of “child” that the post would be removed, as this is against Facebook guidelines.
