TikTok Star Addison Rae ACCUSED of Blackfishing

TikTok star Addison Rae is under fire after being accused of blackfishing in a recent video. In the now deleted Snapchat video, the social media star appeared to be getting her makeup done in a shade that was much darker than her own.

For those of you who don’t know, Addison is a social media star who has over 48 million followers on TikTok and more than 2 billion likes on her videos, making her the second most followed person on the app. She is also a member of The Hype House, which is a group of viral teenagers who work or live out of an LA mansion and spend their days as “content creators” making TikToks together.

And to top it off, she is friends with Kourtney Kardashian and her son Mason Disick, and the three of them have made quite a lot of videos together.

Earlier this week, Addison posted a clip of her getting her makeup done on her Snapchat, and people were quick to jump on her that the foundation color used was OFF.

Addison was accused of blackfishing, which is a term for people who use makeup to try and appear Black or mixed race. People call it the modern form of blackface and it can include skin darkening, lip filling, hair texturizing or wearing traditional Black hairstyles like cornrows. Celebrities like Ariana Grande and the Kardashians often come to mind when people think of blackfishing and cultural appropriation.

Addison’s snapchat video was almost immediately deleted, but people still got those screenshots and posted them online.

All of this comes just days after Addison did an Instagram Live with fellow TikTok star Kio Cyr where she appeared to try to get him to say the n-word… listen closely.

Kio responded though and clarified that Addison said, “did you say” in the video and that people misheard her.

To top it all off, people on Twitter are saying that the reason Addison hasn’t been cancelled for these actions and for some of her other accusations is because she benefits from “pretty privilege”.

pretty privilege is a thing!! addison rae said the n word, danced to a song about EDs, hated on charli for no reason, encouraged her friends to say the n word, and said blm is a CULT and that “all lives matter”. if she wasn’t pretty she would’ve been cancelled a looong time ago

Addison has yet to comment on the accusations of blackfishing or any of the other claims, but we’ll keep you updated if she does.

What do you think? Is there a fine line between blackfishing and just a dark tan? Does Addison deserve the criticism? Let us know!
