TikTok Favorite Book “Beach Read” from Emily Henry Has Film Adaptation in the Works

Emily Henry’s “Beach Read” is the ultimate romantic dramedy for book lovers. The New York Times bestseller follows two former college classmates turned writers struggling with writers block as they challenge each other to get out of a creative rut, and maybe even believe in love again. TikTok’s role in book-to-television and film adaptations has been rapidly growing, with other popular adaptations like “The Summer I Turned Pretty” and “Daisy Jones & The Six” premiering to massive viewership on Amazon Prime Video.

Outside of the New York Times bestseller list, the novel also ranked well on Goodreads and with Oprah Magazine. Deadline announced that Emmy-nominated writer and director Yulin Kuang has been tapped to direct the project with 20th Century. Henry confirmed the news via Instagram. “Beach Read”, initially published in 2020, continues to find a wide array of fans through TikTok.

BookToker Leen (@vivafalastinleen) frequently posts about her favorite details of Henry’s work and received the news of the adaption while on a plane.

Specifically, fans of the book appreciate the complexity of the characters in relation to the love story at play. Both writers depicted in the novel experience grief after deaths in their respective families. Henry continues to receive praise for building a love story in which the characters truly get to know each other, flaws and all.

Fans have already begun crafting their dream cast for the film, and creating vision boards of seaside town aesthetic.

Before the film announcement, readers began posting their favorite passages from the book. Some are drawing comparisons to lyrics from Taylor Swift’s “Folklore” album, notably the songs “Cardigan” and “Mirrorball.” The album similarly focuses thematically on relationships and grief.

An official cast and shooting schedule for the upcoming film was not announced yet, but fans continue to cast their predictions.
