TikTok Creator Dylan Mulvaney Reveals New Face in Viral Instagram Posts

Dylan Mulvaney, known for documenting her transition journey through her “Days of Girlhood” video series and artistic photoshoots, shared the results of her first gender-affirming surgery since coming out as transgender.

Mulvaney underwent facial feminization surgery. The procedure essentially “feminizes” the facial features that may present more traditionally masculine. It is considered a part of gender-affirming healthcare for many transgender people or people who struggle with gender dysphoria.

The big reveal came in her typical style–an old Hollywood glam themed photo and video shoot inspired by actress Audrey Hepburn. A few seconds into the video, viewers get a close up shot of Dylan’s new face.

She took her followers on her journey into surgery just a few weeks ago, and teased updates about how her healing progress was going. The anticipation was building for weeks among Mulvaney’s fan base.

For a brief moment a few days ago, Dylan posted a “now” on TikTok that partially revealed her new face. The “now” feature only lasts 24 hours, and users need to post their own in order to see hers, in a feature that mimics the popular BeReal app. Naturally, the sneak peak had the for-you page glued to their screens.

Mulvaney has been very transparent on social media about the physical and emotional stages of her transition. She has also served as a beacon of positivity on the platform, where she frequently discusses the positive aspects of female friendship and the importance of women supporting women.

In one viral video, she explained why she chooses to carry tampons in her purse, despite not needing them herself. The video made its way into the hands of countless transphobic commenters, but also garnered a plethora of support. Mulvaney has spoken out against transphobia and the importance of supporting the trans community on the platform.

Dylan has a background in musical theater, and sometimes shares covers of her favorite songs.  She famously shared a cover of “Hopelessly Devoted to You” in honor of Olivia Newton John when she passed away in 2022.

Mulvaney wants to define femininity on her own terms. Whether it’s with cutting curtain bangs, wearing glitter, or buying traditionally feminine summer clothes for the first time. She frequently collaborates with other queer creators, including Jonathan Van Ness of Queer Eye.

Outside of exploring her style choices and navigating her singing voice potentially changing while on hormones, Dylan works as an activist. She paid a visit to President Biden in 2022 to discuss the importance of gender affirming healthcare, which several House Republicans have spoken out against. She posted a video strutting into the oval office in a power suit as she lip synched to Elle Woods’ most iconic line from the 2001 film Legally Blonde starring Reese Witherspoon.

Her appearance in the White House was a huge step for transgender representation in popular media and politics. A record number of trans politicians were elected in 2022 in state and local elections. In their sit down interview, Biden publicly voiced his opinion against the proposed ban on gender-affirming healthcare in certain states for the first time.

While today marks a new era for Dylan, her positivity and important messages have always radiated from her face, new or old.
