The Trailer For The New “Wonka” Film Starring Timotheé Chalamet and Hugh Grant Is Here

The much anticipated trailer for “Wonka” has arrived. The whimsical film, based on the original “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”,  stars Oscar nominee Timotheé Chalamet as the eccentric titular Willy Wonka, with Hugh Grant as the Oompa Loompa. Olivia Coleman, Keegan Michael Key and more will appear in supporting roles. The film will serve as a prequel to the “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” story that audiences know, and detail Wonka’s journey to becoming a chocolate entrepreneur.

The late Gene Wilder was the first to take on the role of Willy Wonka in 1971, with Johnny Depp following suit in 2005. Both films closely followed the original children’s book “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, which was written by Roald Dahl in 1964.

The film was written and directed by British filmmaker Paul King. King notably directed the “Paddington” films, which also featured Hugh Grant and an old English whimsy style of storytelling. Fans of the franchise are excited to see the film after the lasting success of the “Paddington” films.

Many are already excited for Chalamet’s take on the iconic character. Wonka’s own backstory as a young man has not been explored by previous iterations of the story. The acclaimed actor’s history of dramatic roles has others excited to see him take on a more comedic and lighthearted storyline.

You look like how we all would imagine a teen Willy Wonka to be! Great job, Willy… I mean, Timmy!

Similarly to Chalamet, Grant appeared in several dramas earlier in his career, later transitioning to romantic and comedy films. Grant’s humorous villainy in “Paddington 2” was widely applauded, and fans of the actor look forward to him stepping into his role as an Oompa Loompa.
