Taylor Swift Trends Online After Receiving Her Honorary Doctorate Degree from NYU

American singer Taylor Swift received an honorary doctorate of fine arts from New York University, otherwise known as NYU. She also gave a speech to the other graduates at the Yankee Stadium. Fans are, of course, ecstatic as this is Swift’s first public appearance this year, and many are excited to be able to call her Doctor Taylor Swift. Swift, who posted a video of her getting ready for the graduation with her robe and cap on Instagram, gave a commencement speech and appeared to be quite humble as she explained she did not feel qualified at all to give “unsolicited advice.”

In her speech, Swift gave some important advice almost everyone could benefit from. She explained the importance of letting go of things that do not serve us, like toxic or unhealthy relationships, “You get to pick what your life has time and room for. Be discerning,” she tells the graduates. She also explains “no matter how hard you try to avoid being cringe, you will look back on your life and cringe retrospectively” and encourages those in the audience to live authentically and not fear embarassment.

Swift, who holds 11 Grammys so far, ended the speech by adressing challenges or tough life events, saying that “We are led by our gut instincts, our intuition, our desires and fears, our scars, and our dreams. You will screw it up sometimes. So will I. And when I do, you will most likely read about it on the internet.” She notes that “”We will recover. We will learn from it. We will grow more resilient because of it.”

Of course, fans were thrilled, as “Doctor Taylor Swift” and “Congratulations Taylor” both trended online. Many noted that she had one casually said that she wanted an honorary doctorate degree, comparing her then and then now. “Words cannot describe how proud i am of taylor. also the fact that she memorized that whole speech is mind blowing,” one fan commented.
