Why Taylor Swift Is Rerecording Her Sophomore Album
If you haven’t been following up on Taylor Swifts career, you might be wondering why she’s rerecording an album she released 13 years ago. Swift actually doesn’t own the master recording rights to any of her music previous to her seventh studio album ‘Lover’.
After a very lengthy and public feud with music producer Scooter Braun and Big Machine Records, Swift took a different direction to claim her work. By rerecording her older music, she regains the rights and control of those songs. Since they are a “new version” of her original releases it does not break any legal guidelines according to her past contract.
I’m thrilled to tell you that my new version of Fearless (Taylor’s Version) is done and will be with you soon. It has 26 songs including 6 never before released songs from the vault. Swift showed her gratitude to fans in a statement by saying that “this process has been more fulfilling and emotional than I could’ve imagined and has made me even more determined to re-record all of my music.”
Along with rerecording her “Fearless” album, Swift also released 2 sister albums this year, “Folklore and Evermore,” both recorded in quarantine during the pandemic. It’s easy to say that as an artist, Taylor Swift never disappoints when it comes to creating music for her fans.
To put it plainly, we just couldn’t stop writing songs. To try and put it more poetically, it feels like we were standing on the edge of the folklorian woods and had a choice: to turn and go back or to travel further into the forest of this music. We chose to wander deeper in.
