Taylor Swift Is Allegedly Working On A Collaboration With ‘Succession’ Writer Alice Birch

The rumors are not always terrible and cruel. The latest rumor about iconic singer-songwriter Taylor Swift is that she is allegedly working on a collaboration with “Succession” and “Normal People” screenwriter Alice Birch. The pair are rumored to be working on a television show that offers a feminist look at the entertainment industry after Swift noticed Birch’s complex writing that went into Shiv’s character on “Succession.”

Birch was also part of adapting Sally Rooney’s acclaimed novel “Normal People” for the BBC and Hulu. The book-to-television adaptation starred Daisy Edgar Jones and Paul Mescal, who each went on to receive Emmy and Oscar nominations.

The Daily Mail was the first to report the news. Allegedly, the Swift-Birch project could include references to the singer’s real-life inspirations behind her massively successful and critically acclaimed music. The singer’s unique life experiences as a powerful woman in the music industry have captivated listeners throughout her lengthy career, and a show indirectly referencing her experiences would capture a different side of entertainment than several of the available programs in the genre.

Notably, Sam Levinson‘s “The Idol” was heavily criticized for its male point of view on women in music, and the objectification and torture of women in general. The Swift-Birch project could offer the direct antithesis to the concept of the recent show, offering a much invited perspective.

Social Media Reactions

Naturally, as Swift’s “The Eras Tour” nears its end in the U.S., fans of the signer were delighted that more Swift content could be on the way.

The collaboration comes after Swift received Oscars buzz for “All Too Well: 10 Minute Version: The Short Film”. The short film, written and directed by Swift, starred Dylan O’Brien and “Stranger Things” star Sadie Sink. The project came after Swift previously directed music videos for several of her other songs, including “The Man”, “Cardigan”, “Willow”, “Anti-Hero”, and “Bejeweled.”

Others fear that Swift will depart music in favor of directing.

It was “All Too Well” that brought attention to Swift’s writing and directing talents, leading to a top secret feature length film Swift is working on with Searchlight Pictures. The production company notably produced acclaimed films “The Shape of Water” and “Nomadland.”

The singer will soon head to California for the final leg of shows on “The Eras Tour.” Neither Swift nor Birch have confirmed the rumors of their collaboration. Her Searchlight project remains under wraps, but theories continue to swirl that the film will center around the infamous “Folklore” love triangle between Betty, James, and Augustine.
