Taylor Swift Announces Brand New Album Midnights at the VMAS
Taylor Swift had a busy night last at MTV’s Video Music Awards, from dancing to Nicki Minaj to accepting Video of the Year for “All Too Well: The Short Film.” While accepting the award, she decided it was time to announce her newest album, which will feature 13 brand new tracks, to be released in October.
Midnights, the stories of 13 sleepless nights scattered throughout my life, will be out October 21. Meet me at midnight.

Swift arrived in a dress made by Oscar de la Renta, which was covered in sparkling jewels, and her signature red lip. Her attendance at the 2022 VMAs is her first in three years and surprised her fans, as she had not been previously confirmed to attend. She was joined by Dylan O’Brien, who was in her music video for “All Too Well” and Rina Yang, who was the cinematographer.
The singer-songwriter made history after becoming the only artist to win three VMAS for Video of the Year. Not only did she win video of the year, but she also won “best long-form video” at the beginning of the evening, making it 14 VMAs that Swift has won throughout her career.

I’m so honored to have been recognized alongside such amazing directors in this category,” she said, before telling fans that her 10th album, which is “brand new” will be released on the 21st of October. Later on Instagram, she announced it is entitled “Midnights” and features “a collection of music written in the middle of the night.” Obviously, fans were overjoyed and she began trending online.

“I know with every second of this moment that we wouldn’t have been able to make this short film if it weren’t for you, the fans. Because I wouldn’t be able to re-record my albums if it weren’t for you. You embolden me to do that,” she said while accepting the award. Last year, Swift released the re-recording of her album “Red” featuring the highly-anticipated 10-minute version of her breakup ballad “All Too Well.” To accompany the song, she directed a short film featuring Sadie Sink and Dylan O’Brien.

Fans were quick to decipher the artist’s dress, as she has long been known for dropping easter eggs and clues prior to her album announcements, and pointed out that her dress was covered in diamonds, reminiscent of her music video “Look What You Made Me Do.” Others pointed out it had been 13 years after being interrupted by rapper Kanye West, which represents her lucky number. Overall, fans were definitely paying attention to Swift’s every move last night but were definitely not expecting Swift’s announcement.
But, they cannot help but wonder what kind of album “Midnights” will be. Swift, who is known for her pop anthems but also what some nicknamed “sad girl autumn” songs, fans are unsure of what Swift has up her sleeve, but are excited nonetheless.
