Twitter Marks March 31st As Super Mario’s Death As Multiple Games Will No Longer Be Sold

Twitter mourned the death of Super Mario on March 31st, 2021, as several games were removed from the Nintendo store. The trend began early Wednesday morning, now reaching more that 200K tweets regarding the loss of the popular, red-dressed, animated Italian plumber which stole the hearts of many.

The video-gaming world’s icon was born in 1985, releasing firstly “Super Mario Bros” which changed the platform’s dynamic. In September, the franchise celebrated its 35 year anniversary with fans around the globe. Simultaneously, it launched two remastered classic games “Super Mario 3D All-Stars” and “Super Mario Bros 35”, for the Switch console which would only be available up until March 31st.

Twitter Fans Disappointment

Fans of the famous game have been seeking to understand why the sales of the new products will no longer be available. In a Twitter spree of thousands of comments, users speculated that Nintendo’s move may also mean the end of the character’s life too.

A user said on Tuesday, “Mario dies tomorrow, I’m gonna miss him,” followed by a sad emoji.

Another supposed, “Mario dies tomorrow. I can already feel the pain.”

Rumors were fueled last month when Nintendo made an announcement saying that the remastered products will not be out for long. The only ones who would still have access to “Super Mario 3D All-Stars”  would be the ones who would download it before March 31st. However, “Super Mario Bros 35” would be totally discontinued and not playable after that date.

Hope That Mario Lives On

Besides multiple theories made by hardcore fans, there is a reason why these sources may also be proven unreliable as Nintendo stated as a reminder last month that some games will be available beyond March 31st.

“Titles such as ‘Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury,’ ‘Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit,’ and the Super Nintendo Entertainment System — Nintendo Switch Online version of ‘Super Mario All-Stars’ will continue to be available on Nintendo eShop and at local retailers beyond March 31st, 2021.”

A Series Of Memes

Twitter users have once again left their mark on the news of Mario possibly ending his 35 year old path in the gaming world. Memes referencing Luigi along with clips from famous movies took part in the “mourning”, paying tribute in a sense to Mario’s importance.

Many begin to wonder if Nintendo purposefully fed the audience with such thoughts a day before April Fool’s in order to increase sales.

The company made no further announcements as to whether Wednesday would mean “Game Over” for Super Mario.
