Social Media Reacts to Historic Donald Trump Indictment for Stormy Daniels Hush Money

Former U.S. President Donald Trump has been indicted in Manhattan, New York. The indictment makes U.S. history, making Trump the first former U.S. president to face criminal charges. Trump is facing the charges over the alleged Stormy Daniels hush money scheme, in which records indicate that Trump attempted to wire the adult film star $130,000 for silence about their alleged affair. The payment was made days before Trump won the presidency in 2016.

The Trump presidency has largely impacted American history and politics, forging a more extreme Republican party and widespread criticism from Democratic politicians and leftist activists alike. Today, left-leaning Twitter users celebrate the indictment, hoping that it could mark the end of absolute immunity and improvements in the justice system.

Some even feel that they manifested the indictment, after it was announced that charges were being decided by New York lawmakers 10 days ago. Tara Dublin (@taradublinrocks) tweeted about lighting palo santo to allow for negative energy to be washed away last night, in hopes of a Trump arrest being made.

Last night before bed, I lit some palo santo & asked the universe to send me “a big good thing” today because I needed it

Another Twitter user named Matilda Bress (@matildabress) shared a humorous video of her mother ringing a cowbell in celebration of the indictment, despite living in a predominantly Republican-voting neighborhood.

Trump’s legal team learned of the indictment from the New York Times, but were contacted about it directly after the news broke to the public, The Guardian reports.

Former President Trump remains under investigation for several other pending cases, including election interference in Georgia, and laundering Russian funds in New York. Trump’s role in the January 6 Capitol Insurrection could additionally result in criminal charges. Outside of the criminal charges, Trump was also the first U.S. president to be impeached twice. This is a breaking story, and an arrest is yet to be made.
