‘Scott Pilgrim’ Adapted For Anime With Original Cast Voicing Characters

The beloved “Scott Pilgrim vs. The World” is back–and in its original form. The comic-to-film adaptation was initially released in 2010, starring the likes of Michael Cera, Brie Larson, Chris Evans, Jason Schwartzman, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Kieran Culkin, and more. Now, the first trailer for the anime-style remake is out for longtime fans to see. The original cast members returned to the project to voice their respective characters.

The original film garnered a massive fanbase for its colorful palette, unique humor, video game references, and indie rock soundtrack. The film successfully launched the careers of several of its stars, notably Michael Cera. Cera most recently appeared as Allan in Greta Gerwig’s acclaimed “Barbie.”

In the 13 years since the project’s initial release, Cera still has a lot of love for the film.

Scott Pilgrim vs. Netflix

The film will be released with Netflix. The streaming giant has been subject to criticism for several reasons in recent months. The platform cracked down on password sharing, forcing families spread between multiple households to pay extra fees to share accounts or have to pay to star separate accounts entirely.

Outside of passwordsgate, the streamer has been under scrutiny since May amid the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Writers on popular programs claim that the network hires “mini rooms” to skirt job security for screenwriters, and actors claim that they are paid slim to no residuals. Low or a lack of residual payments can lead to a lack of insurance coverage for actors.

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA - JULY 13: A sign reads 'Unions Stand Together' as SAG-AFTRA members walk the picket line in solidarity with striking WGA (Writers Guild of America) workers outside Netflix offices on July 13, 2023 in Los Angeles, California. Members of SAG-AFTRA, Hollywood’s largest union which represents actors and other media professionals, will likely go on strike after a midnight deadline over contract negotiations with studios expired. The strike could shut down Hollywood productions completely with writers in the third month of their strike against Hollywood studios.

The cult following surrounding “Scott Pilgrim” has some former Netflix subscribers vowing to return just to see the film.

Netflix knows how to get me back. Dang
