RuPaul’s Drag Race Royalty Eureka O’Hara Talks About Their Show “We’re Here” and Their Journey with Sobriety

This week on Culture Q, we look back on the GLAAD awards that happened a few weeks ago and an important message drag queen Eureka O’Hara had to share. The queen, who became a fan favorite after competing in seasons 9 and 10 of RuPaul’s Drag Race,  discussed their HBO show, “We’re Here” and got vulnerable after describing their journey with sobriety. Their message from the night was very inspiring as they encouraged their audience to survive.

Eureka hosts a show on HBO with two other drag queens, Shangela and Bob the Drag Queen, as they travel to states and encourage residents to perform in a one-night-only drag show. The Emmy nominated show has two seasons and focuses on drawing a community together in smaller states. When asked about the show, they said that the show was important as it highlighted “the need to be spotlighted.” They also said that this season’s stories were “rich and diverse” which is always something the queer community is looking for.

Eureka also inspires people by telling their story of recovering from addiction and has been open about their recent stay at rehab, breaking down barriers and stigmas against those who struggle with addictions. They talked about knowing that they are an influence and inspiration for others, and how that impacted their decision to be sober as they wanted to be the best version of themselves possible, which is not an easy decision to make.

Eureka overall has a positive and encouraging message that they carry with them about surviving as a queer person and finding a community. They encouraged fans at home to “realize you are not alone even if it may feel like you are alone” and to “muster up the courage to put yourself out there.” To see the interview in its entirety, see here.
