Roulette: Inside Bets Explained
Roulette – a game loved by many around the world, with players pulling up a chair at a casino table every day to grab a game, whether that be online or within a land-based establishment. With Roulette taking the top spot as the most iconic casino game of all time, it comes as no surprise that it is often a game on every player’s ‘to play’ list, especially those new to the casino floor. When it comes to playing online casino Roulette, or land-based games, there are many bets you can place in order to predict where the small white ball will land next within the pocketed compartments of the Roulette wheel. Many will know the easier types of bets, known as outside bets, which consist of wagers placed on categories including red or black, odd or even, high or low, with few knowing the slightly more complicated bets, known as inside bets.
With this in mind, we thought it would be a great time to explain a little more about inside bets and their odds. Scroll down to discover the world of inside bets within a game of Roulette.
Inside Bets
The best way to describe inside bets is to think that any betting chip placed within the numbered rectangle on the Roulette table, is classed as an inside bet.
Straight Up
This is a bet that is placed on any given number found within the wheel, whether that be 2 or 34, for example. If the ball lands on that number, you win and if it doesn’t, you lose. The betting odds for a straight-up bet is 35:1.
Split
This bet type consists of a chip being placed on the line between two separate numbers, for example, you could place a bet on 5/6 or 26/27.. If the ball lands on one of the two numbers you’ll be paid 17:1.
Street
Otherwise known as a ‘trio bet’ or ‘steam bet’, a street bet consists of placing a chip down on the outside line of a row of three numbers, allowing you to place a wager on the ball landing on one of the three numbers chosen. For example, numbers 1, 2, 3 or 22, 23, 24. If guessed correctly, you’ll be rewarded with a payout of 11:1.
Corner
Also known as a ‘four numbered bet’ or a ‘square bet’, a chip is placed on a corner where four numbers meet within the Roulette table layout. For example, a wager can be placed on the corners of numbers 8, 9, 11 and 12, where the odds are 8:1.
Line
Otherwise referred to as a ‘six number bet’, a line bet consists of a chip being placed at the end of two rows of three numbers, on two consecutive rows. For example, a chip can be placed on the end of rows 1-3 and 4-6 to class as a line bet. The odds here are 5:1.
Five Numbered Bet
Also known as a ‘top line bet’, a five numbered bet can only be placed on an American Roulette game layout, as this requires both a single zero and a double zero. This bet contains a total of five numbers, with a chip placed in the top section encompassing 0, 00, 1, 2, and 3. There is a 13.16% chance of this winning, with a 6:1 payout.
Basket
This bet, unlike the five numbered bet, can be wagered in both a European and American game. Also known as the ‘first four’, a player must place a chip on sections 0, 1, 2, and 3 to place a basket bet. Again, the payout for this bet type is 6:1.
Snake Bet
Perhaps less common, but paying out at 2:1, a snake bet is referred to the serpent-like pattern created amongst the table layout, where a player will place a chip on numbers 1, 5, 9, 12, 14, 16, 19, 23, 27, 30, 32 and 34.
