Rock n’ Roll Icon Tina Turner Dies At 83

Multi-genre music icon Tina Turner has died at 83. According to a statement from her family, she was pronounced dead after battling a long illness at her home near Zürich, Switzerland. Turner won countless accolades throughout her decades long career, from Grammy awards to Tony Awards and countless others in between. She is known for her several hit songs spanning from the 1960s through the 1980s, and her collaborations with other rock stars, including Mick Jagger and Cher.

The star’s bridge between R&B and rock music made her a trailblazer, as did her outspoken discussions about domestic abuse. She was famously married to Ike Turner, and the duo performed together throughout their relationship before she launched her own successful solo career. Her smash hit “What’s Love Got To Do With It” cemented her career as a solo artist.

Today, her contemporaries honor her powerful legacy.

Tributes To Tina

Mick Jagger of The Rolling Stones shared a personal tribute to the late singer, who he has performed with several times throughout his lengthy music career.

The Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame additionally shared a compilation of the singer’s most impactful performances. Turner was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2021.

Fans of Turner turn to her many performances and decade-defining onstage moves that continue to inspire contemporary performers. Others also credit her for making waves for women’s rights in the music industry. The singer was notably the first woman to grace the cover of Rolling Stone.
