“Nasty Women” and “Suburban Housewives” are coming for Donald Trump

President Donald Trump took to Twitter this morning to confidently say that “suburban housewives” will be voting for him in November because they want “safety.” 

The “suburban housewife” will be voting for me. They want safety & are thrilled that I ended the long running program where low income housing would invade their neighborhood. Biden would reinstall it, in a bigger form, with Corey Booker in charge! @foxandfriends @MariaBartiromo

However, if Twitter is any indication, the President has overestimated his fan base. Twitter users have been quick to slam Trump for the antiquated and racist tweet. One user pointed to the Portland Moms protests saying “Are you serious? You tear gassed suburban housewives and you think they’re going to vote for you?”

Some resorted to humor to highlight how ridiculous Trump’s tweet was.

Many commented on the racist and sexist nature of the tweet and even The Daily Show had something to say about it.

As for the “Suburban Housewives” themselves? If President Trump believes that he has their votes then he is in for a rude awakening. Women who would fall under this category are less than enthused to be referred to as “suburban housewives” and what’s more, they are in no hurry to cast their vote in favor of Donald Trump.

I am a woman.

I live in the suburbs.

I am a single mom.

I work full time.

If you call me a "suburban housewife" I will laugh in your face, and then knee you in the groin.

And it’s not just Twitter. The Washington Post reported this Friday that an average of national polls since late June indicates that women voters overwhelmingly favor Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden over Trump by a margin of 23 percentage points. 

This follows on the heels of the President’s White House press briefing yesterday, during which he attacked Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden’s Vice Presidential running mate, Senator Kamala Harris. Trump repeatedly referred to her as nasty” and “horrible,” specifically for her treatment of Biden and Brett Kavanaugh during his Supreme Court confirmation hearing. 

This isn’t the first time that he has called a woman “nasty.” In fact, it is a word Trump has often used against female politicians and public figures, including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Mayor Carmen Yulín Cruz of San Juan, Puerto Rico, and Meghan Markle. He also referred to his former Democratic opponent, Hillary Clinton, as “such a nasty woman” during the final 2016 presidential debate. 

“I will take him over Kamala,” Trump said of Vice President Mike Pence, adding that Harris is the “meanest, most horrible, most disrespectful of anybody in the U.S. Senate.”

Unsurprisingly, Trump’s comments did not go without notice or response and #nastywoman has since been trending on Twitter, with users standing by Harris.

Many have claimed the moniker “nasty woman” as something to not only accept, but own and be proud of, saying that they are all nasty women. 

When Trump calls a woman a #nastywoman, what he really means is that she’s a “strong woman.” Strong women scare Trump into his bunker.

A #nastywoman gets shit done. She can birth another person, hold down a demanding job, whip up a 5 course meal, organize a home, a company, a country.

Whether it’s his grumbling about nasty women or his latest suburban housewife comment, one thing is for sure, Twitter is not about to let President Trump get away with his words.
