Mr. Beast Surpasses PewDiePie as the Most Subscribed Channel on YouTube
After years of having the most subscribed channel on Youtube, PewDiePie has been dethroned. Mr. Beast, the elaborate stunt Youtuber and businessman has become the most subscribed channel on Youtube after rising to popularity in 2017.
Mr. Beast, known in real life as Jimmy Donaldson, started his channel at 13 in 2012. After his video of him counting to 100,000 went viral, Donaldson has gradually rose in popularity, orchestrating more and more elaborate stunts. Last year, he recreated the popular Netflix series “Squid Game” as a non-violent competition for an 456,000 prize on his channel.

PewDiePie originally became the most subscribed channel on Youtube back in 2013. He was the first individual Youtube creator to have a channel with over 100 million subscribers. Mr.Beast became the 2nd back in July. He celebrated the milestone on Twitch.
Over a million people celebrated 100,000,000 subscribers with me

When Donaldson reached 111 million subscribers(catching up with PewDiePie) he decided to celebrate by buying 1,111 lottery tickets.
“I just bought 1,111 lottery tickets, something is telling me I’ll win,” He tweeted.

This new milestone comes full circle for Donaldson who supported PewDiePie during the PewDiePie vs. T Series subscriber battle back in 2018. Donaldson bought numerous billboards and media ad spots telling every to “subscribe to PewDiePie”.
Many on social media celebrated Mr.Beast for this accomplishment.
@MrBeast congrats bro. Obviously it’s not a competition but you work super hard, so see this as acknowledgement haha

The end of a YouTube era but no one deserves this more than @MrBeast pic.twitter.com/ZhxUfN40gO

Some are stunned that the era of PewDiePie is over.
Kinda crazy to think PewDiePie is no longer the 'King' of YouTube in subs anymore (MrBeast overtook him today.)
End of an era for sure. Congratulations to @MrBeast for being awesome!

It’s crazy seeing Pewdiepie not being the most subscribed individual on YouTube now. I feel old.

PewDiePie’s channel has slowed down after the PewDiePie vs. T Series battle. He films the occasional vlog or reaction video. Several months ago, he responded to a comment in a previous video asking how’d he feel if Mr. Beast surpassed him in subscribers. He was supportive of it.
“Yeah, he definitely will[surpass me]. Come on. I’ve been retired for like 2 years now. I can’t wait for it to be over,” He answers “[Mr. Beast’s] fans are infiltrating my comments. I guess I’m getting a taste of my own medicine. That’s alright, he deserves it. I hope he does it”.
