Matthew McConaughey Comes Out With Surprising Opinion Regarding Vaccinations
Matthew McConaughey, most known for his work with romantic comedies like How To Lose a Guy in 10 days or in recent work in the crime drama True Detective, has recently come out about his stance regarding vaccinations. At the New York Times DealBook summit yesterday, he shares his somewhat controversial thoughts of vaccinations, specifically mandated vaccinations.

McConaughey’s thoughts on vaccinations
Though McConaughey is fully vaccinated himself, as is his wife, his position seems to lean against mandated vaccinations, which has been a hot topic within the U.S when the vaccination became available. He believes that “I couldn’t mandate having to vaccinate the younger kids. I still want to find out more information.” Recently, the CDC approved Pfizer Covid-19 vaccinations for children from 5-11. He tells Andrew Ross, writer, that his beliefs fall into a personal choice, noting that: “I didn’t do it because someone told me I had to.” However, he also notes that he does not believe the vaccine is not a “scam” or a “conspiracy theory” and wishes to “get off that narrative. There’s not a conspiracy theory on the vaccines.”
As a responsible parent of 12 beautiful children, I was holding off vaccinating them until I heard what Matthew McConaughey thought.

He notes that his children, ages 8, 11, and 13, are not vaccinated “right now.” This refrences to his beliefs earlier, where he disagrees that children should have to be vaccinated. He also notes that he “quarantined harder” than most of his friends, according to Newsweek. His opinions seem to represent a theme, which is personal choice and doing something because you choose to and not being forced. Howqever, though his stance is not an anti-vaccination stance, it came to dissapoint to many fans, especially those in the medical field.
The internet’s response
Though there were some memes to McConaughey’s opinion, joking that since he is a celebrity and not a doctor they will take his opinion with a grain of salt, some seemed to be very dissapointed in his opinion. Others wondered if McConaughey, who has teased before with running for Governor of Texas.
So, are we to assume that Matthew McConaughey is running for governor of Texas now that he has come out against vaccine mandates for kids??

As far as the topic of vaccination goes, it varies in opinions. Likewise, many responses to McConaughey were diverse. Some were happy to have a celebrity come out against mandated vaccinations, especially in children, as many celebreties seem to encourage mandated vaccinations.
Let's talk about all of the parents that are against them!!! #novaxforkids #unvaccinated https://t.co/QXPoXuabQx

However, many people seemed to think that McConaughey, no matter what he would decide regarding running for governor, has an opinion that is just that: an opinion. Many believe that what doctors or epidemiologist have to say regarding vaccinations take priority, instead of politicians or celebrities.
