Lana Del Rey Slams Fan Accusation That She Voted For Trump This Election

Lana Del Rey is receiving some heavy backlash online after social media users began to speculate that she voted for Donald Trump.

On Wednesday, a fan under the username @holyh00ker, wrote on Twitter: “I just KNOW Elizabeth voted for Trump, I wish I could look up her voting records. Something doesn’t sit right with me.” The fan references Lana Del Rey as Elizabeth Grant which is her birth name.

The speculation all began when she streamed herself watching the results of the election begin to be revealed on an Instagram livestream. She was watching ABC News’ election coverage and began singing when the electoral map popped up: “It’s a lot of red” on repeat. The “red” is in reference to all of the states that Trump won over, including Florida.

Many, including the fan referenced above, assumed that Lana was happy about Trump’s small victories based on her tone and attitude. This was something that countless Twitter users were talking about and trying to analyze right away.

The “Summertime Sadness” singer responded to the fan’s tweet with “Go. F**k. Yourself.”

Following Lana’s response, the social media user claimed that she was a huge fan of the singer and even had her name tattooed on her arm. And while social media users thought that would be the end of the conversation, Lana decided to respond once again.

“Nah read what u wrote hoe,” Del Rey tweeted.

Once the “fan” had set their account to private, they began tweeting that it would be difficult to “unstan” Lana even after this whole situation.

The singer followed up: “Bro. I’ve been waiting for you to. Do it.”

This is not the first time that Lana Del Rey has faced backlash this year. During a time of heightened racial injustice following the death of George Floyd, the singer was criticized for dating a police officer. She also wore a bedazzled mesh facemask around fans for a public book signing. The signing was shut down shortly after it began due to concerns about capacity as well as the safety and health risks due to the current global pandemic.

Many fans have backed up Lana Del Rey and believe she is not a Trump supporter. Back in 2018, she commented on a photo of Kanye West wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat: “Trump becoming our president was a loss for the country, but your support of him is a loss for the culture.”

“If you support someone who believes it’s okay to grab a woman by the p***y just because he’s famous — then you need an intervention as much as he does — something so many narcissists will never get because there just isn’t enough help for the issue,” She added.

Back in 2017, Lana opened up about feeling uncomfortable with President Trump in power.

“I definitely changed my visuals on my tour videos,” she said. “I’m not going to have the American flag waving while I’m singing ‘Born to Die.’ It’s not going to happen. I’d rather have static. It’s a transitional period, and I’m super aware of that. I think it would be inappropriate to be in France with an American flag. It would feel weird to me now – it didn’t feel weird in 2013,” Del Rey said.

Fans of Lana Del Rey are definitely siding with the singer and think that the fan was out of line for making those comments. However, some are still questioning why she would post or react so enthusiastically about the states with more Trump supporters than others.

Several social media users feel confident that Lana Del Rey did vote for Donald Trump. Despite Lana’s several replies to the accusation, she never officially denied the claim. It seems as though people across social platforms will continue to agree to disagree when it comes to this controversy.

The results of the election have yet to be announced.
