Kylie Jenner Dubbed As “Climate Criminal” After Flying Private Jet to Avoid Driving

Although it is not exactly rare for the Kardashians or Jenners to be involved in a controversy, Kylie Jenner received a lot of criticism after taking a 17-minute flight to avoid driving 45 minutes. A Twitter account, @CelebJets, which tracks different celebrities’ jets and travels, reported the flight and went viral on Twitter, especially causing controversy as a heat wave brings devastating temperatures across the world.

Just before this, Jenner had posted a photo of her and Travis Scott’s private jets, which many thought of as an inappropriate flex. Many were concerned due to the ever-present risk climate change continues to bring and the carbon emissions the jets create. Many noted that people feel pressured to do things to eliminate waste or help the environment, like using metal straws or carpooling. But, some wondered why they would bother doing it if it wasn’t helping and wealthy people would continue doing things like this.

80% of people have never taken a plane and Kylie Jenner is out here taking regular 10 minute flights, 5 flights in the last week under 30 minutes, one was 3 minutes long. Her carbon footprint for one ten minute flight, is more than some people make in a year.

“Europe is on fire, meanwhile Kylie Jenner is taking 15-minute trips in her private jet. I could recycle everything, buy all my clothes second-hand, compost and grow my own food for the rest of my life and it wouldn’t even begin to offset the footprint from one of her flights,” one person wrote. Jenner’s flights have been as short as 3 minutes, which many people feel is just beyond wasteful.

According to this carbon footprint calculator at Carbon Click, private jets can create two tons of CO2 in just one hour, making some people wonder why they would bother remembering to use reusable shopping bags or drinking beverages out of paper straws quick to disintegrate.  “I can’t imagine what it would be like for her to sit in traffic for an hour thank God she didn’t have to suffer like the rest of us,” one person responded to someone saying the drive was probably over an hour due to traffic which is why she opted to take the plane instead.
