Kimiko Glenn, Mark Ruffalo and Other Celebrities Speak out on SAG-AFTRA and WGA Strikes

Actors like Mark Ruffalo, Kimiko Glenn and more are speaking out on behalf of and writers and actors everywhere with the recent WGA and SAG-Aftra Strike.

The combined WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes are making history for labor unions and the entertainment industry. The strike is bringing together all departments of the industry, as news of a possible IATSE theater worker strike looms.

To share their support for the strike, many actors are taking to social media to share their thoughts and views on the matter.

Fan favorite, known for his role as Hulk in Marvel movies, Mark Ruffalo shared his thoughts on the strike straight from the picket line.

Ruffalo apparently came straight from an art class to join the picketers, and later on urged actors and writers to get more involved in the indie film scene, opposed to the major studios.

Orange is the New Black actor, Kimiko Glenn, took to TikTok to share why the strike is so important to her personally, by showing her residuals earned from the show.

The star went on to add that despite appearing in multiple episodes of the show, including a nude scene, the actors were not paid well to begin with, and her residuals earned from streaming corporations are next to nothing.

Comedian and actor Leslie Jones took to TikTok to combat the plethora of misinformation surrounding the ongoing strikes.

Jones commented that the strike is not targeted for the few actors that managed to make huge careers, but the character actors and background actors struggling to pay their rent.

Last but not least we have a celebrity who decided to speak directly to major studio execs, Ron Pearlman.

Pearlman, most well known for his role as ‘Hellboy’ shared a veiled threat towards the exec that said they would wait until strikers “start losing their apartments and losing their houses.”

Pearlman later clarified in a followup instagram live that he, “got quite heated,” and “doesn’t wish anyone harm,” though he remains in strong support of the strike.

With so many huge celebrities chiming in on the situation, strikers are hopeful major studios and streaming titans will be more open to meeting their demands.
