Katy Perry Speaks Out About Her Battle with Depression Following Release of ‘Witness’
After the release of her 2017 album, ‘Witness’, Katy Perry opens up about how the negative feedback about the album that she had worked so hard over, had sparked feelings of situational depression.
Perry has explored her feelings openly before, such as in the live streaming of her therapy sessions, but this description of depression is new, and will no doubt be all too familiar to many.
Katy Perry is known for her upbeat music that makes you want to spring to your toes and have a little boogie. However, after her recent album, Witness, which featured tracks such as: Swish Swish, Chained to the Rhythm and Bon Appetit, started to gain negative feedback and ultimately became a flop, Perry began to have doubts about her future in music.

Fans of Perry were disappointed that the album lacked any thought, and that the lyrics were somewhat tacky. We get where they’re coming from when they say this though, as with lyrics such as “Don’t need opinions, from a shellfish or a sheep” doesn’t really scream lyrical genius, but it is a bit harsh to say that this is one of Perry’s worst albums yet.
katy perry said she was “heartbroken” about the reactions from her witness album. maybe if she wasn’t talking about taylor all the time and actually wrote some music that’s listenable and didn’t write tacky songs about food and have the all seeing eye everywhere.

But despite this negative backlash, many of Katy’s stans have admitted that the album has a much deeper meaning than some may think. They express how the album came from her heart, and although it may not have sounded like Perry’s old music, it was a risk she wanted to take to show her diversity, and there were still many bops on it, whether the lyrics touched your heart or not.
witness was “that bitch” of the 2017 albums. i adore katy for her talent. there was not a single song i’d skip and i would play it 24/7! she doesn’t deserve the hate.

she was already dealing with major backlash and media slander because of her hair then she released an empowering album that she believed would start a conversation only for it to be overlooked and shat on by all of the public smh witness was way ahead of its time

Unfortunately, when an artist puts their heart and soul into an album that they think will do really well, only for it to fail and flop, it does have it’s negative consequences. Katy revealed in a recent interview with Vogue Australia that she attended a program at the Hoffman Institute in California for a week, which on it’s website, says that it’s for people who want to “identify their negative moods and ways of thinking.” Perry said that she began getting bouts of situational depression when the noise of the public started to get too much for her to deal with. From the public slating her personal relationships to the negative feedback from her album, Katy need change.
Perry also mentioned in the interview that it broke her heart when the public didn’t react in the way she thought they would, and after 10 years of many successes, she thought that this was natures way of telling her that this is where she needs to stop making music to feel validated and focus on another way of achieving self love.
Fans across Twitter are hurt that their favorite singer had to endure this pain that can tear people to pieces. Because the KatyCats are the most loyal fans ever, they have started a hashtag trend #WeAreGratefulForKaty, along with messages to share to Katy about how what she is going through is not fair, but it is normal and that they give her their love and wish her happiness.
Katy tried her best during the Witness era and people give her nothing but hate. KatyCats are grateful for you, Katy, and we will support you unconditionally, don't forget that!#WeAreGratefulForKaty
