Katy Perry Faces Backlash Online After American Idol Contestant Sara Beth Quits Competition

Sara Beth from American Idol has officially withdrawn from the competition after her viral audition, and some are blaming Katy Perry for the star’s exit. 

As you may recall, Sarah Beth went viral after being mocked by American Idol judge Katy Perry during her audition on the latest season of the singing competition. The contestant shared she was a mother of three children at the young age of 25, which drew quite the colorful comments from the “I Kissed a Girl” singer.

Katy Perry faced a large amount of criticism online for her comments, and the contestant called her out shortly afterward as well.

Addressing the situation on TikTok, Sara Beth stated how she felt.

The contestant went on to thank all of the women who supported her for being a young mom and said that women should be really supporting each other. 

Fast forward a few weeks later from this viral moment, Sara Beth performed for the judges once more in the Hollywood Week of American Idol where she claimed she was struggling with her confidence and needed to go home to her children.

The judges ended up pulling Sara Beth back onto the stage to get some more clarity on the situation, and Katy Perry actually begged the contestant to stay on the show.

Fans online were actually shocked that not only was this amazing and talented mom leaving the competition, but were also shocked to hear some of Katy’s advice. 

Given that Katy Perry had just shamed Sara Beth for having so many kids at an early age, several fans took issue with the judge now claiming she understands her “as a mother.” 

Oh sure, because nothing says "supportive environment" like being publicly shamed by a judge and then begged to stay in a cutthroat competition. Who wouldn't want to stick around for more of that?

Some fans online labeled Perry as hypocritical for her comments on the show and some speculated that Sara Beth actually left the competition due to all of the uproar since her first audition.
