Kate Bush and Missy Elliott Among 2023 Rock n’ Roll Hall Of Fame Inductees
The Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame has announced the 2023 inductees. The inductees include Rage Against the Machine, Missy Elliott, Kate Bush, Willie Nelson, Sheryl Crow, The Spinners, and George Michael. Chaka Khan and several others will receive additional awards at the ceremony. The Hall of Fame inducts five to seven lucky musicians every year, after a rigorous voting process. Highly acclaimed country artist Dolly Parton infamously bowed out of voting last year to honor her rock counterparts opportunities for induction, but she ultimately accepted her spot.
Music fans typically have mixed reactions to many of the Hall of Fame’s decisions. The voting process tends to oscillate between commercial and critical success when deciding who belongs in their hallowed halls. This year’s nominees make history on several accounts. Missy Elliott is now the first female rapper to earn a spot in the Hall of Fame. Netflix’s “Stranger Things” launched Kate Bush’s career to new heights after her 1985 hit “Running Up That Hill” soundtracked an episode of the hit show.
Hall of Fame Inductees Reactions
Today, fans of the artists involved are applauding this year’s inclusive list of inductees. Missy Elliott notably thanked her fans and collaborators for taking her down the road to the induction. The rapper first broke onto the scene with several hits throughout the 1990s and 2000s, notably “Get Ur Freak On” and “Work It.”

Reactions to Kate Bush and More
Many applauded the Hall of Fame for including Kate Bush after so many years. Bush’s career as a new wave alternative pop singer took off in the 1980s, and saw a huge revival decades later. “Running Up That Hill” reached number one on the Billboard charts in the summer of 2022. The phenomenon sparked a series of other popular shows to include older songs in their soundtracks. Notably, Linda Ronstadt’s “Long, Long Time” appeared in HBO’s “The Last of Us.” Fans of Bush were excited to see her music continue to receive mainstream recognition.

Fans of George Michael were glad to see that the singer would be honored posthumously. The singer’s track “Carless Whisper” saw a recent Gen Z revival through several TikTok trends, and his track “Last Christmas” remains a holiday staple. Michael passed away in 2016.

Amid the numerous positive reactions, listeners were divided over Rage Against the Machine’s induction. While some felt their spot was well deserved as they are the only rock artists to be inducted this year, others felt that they did not deserve their spot over The White Stripes and Soundgarden, who were both eligible this year.

The Hall of Fame will also induct Sheryl Crow. Crow’s fusion of folk and rock gave way to a lengthy and successful songwriting career. Some rock music fans were excited to see her induction, while others felt some bands should have snagged the spot. Notably, Crow rose to fame with her popular 1996 eponymous album “Sheryl Crow” which featured hit song “If It Makes You Happy.”
Deserved for making this hit album https://t.co/Nj5oVYRu1X

Crow is only one of five artists to have won a Grammy for best new artist to be inducted into the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame. The 38th annual induction ceremony will take place on November 3 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
