Johnny Depp’s Lawyer Camille Vasquez Denies Allegations About the Jury Being Swayed

In case you missed it, Johnny Depp won in his defamation trial against Amber Heard. After six weeks, the jury found that Heard’s op-ed piece defamed Depp when she claimed to be a victim of domestic abuse. But, after finding out the jury was not sequestered during the trial, meaning they could use their phones and see the overwhelming support for Depp online, some believed that the jury was swayed in their opinion. With TikTok memes making light of the trial and clips being reposted in support of Depp, with Heard even saying she is being harassed online, some online could definitely see how this might sway an opinion. Depp’s lawyers, however, spoke on “Good Morning America” and denied this as a possibility.

“He was over the moon … I feel that finally after six years he's gotten his life back.”

Ben Chew and Camille Vasquez, who were on Depp’s legal team, reiterated their belief that social media had nothing to do with the jury’s decision, who they believe voted based on facts alone. “This was a decision made by the jury on the evidence presented by both sides,” Chew said. Vasquez, who began trending on Twitter this week after her firm promoted her to a partner, said that  “They had a tremendous amount of respect for the court and the process, and they were doing the best that they could.” Although the jury was not sequestered, Vasquez reiterates that they were reminded every night to ignore the social media response.

Heard’s representatives discussed their thoughts on Depp’s lawyers discussing the trial in multiple interviews, saying “It is as unseemly as it is unprofessional that Johnny Depp’s legal team has chosen to do a victory lap for setting back decades of how women can be treated in the courtroom.”

But, some people did not take kindly to Heard’s representative’s response, as many people believed the jury made the decision based on facts and facts alone. She also received hate for discussing Johnny Depp’s TikTok, which gained millions of followers overnight.
