Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner Debate Over Location of Divorce Court Hearings
Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner are entering a debate on where their divorce hearings will be held in regards to the custody battle.
The Jonas Brothers band member is fighting for the case to be heard in the US while the “Game of Thrones” alum is asking to have it happen in England. The actress wants to raise her children Willa and Delphine in the UK.
According to Page Six, A hearing took place this past Wednesday with the court deciding that it would not make a final decision on parenting until Turner’s lawsuit in New York, which was filed last week after the star claimed Jonas refused to give back the passports to their children, has made its definitive ruling as to whether the case should be heard in the UK or Florida.
The Miami judge also noted it would hold a hearing the week of December 11th regarding the actress’ request for a dismissal.
However, because the Jonas Brothers band member filed for divorce and served Turner with papers first, he has an advantage against the UK courts.
Shortly after the news of the divorce, the actress claimed that she found out about her divorce through the media.
She and Jonas came to an agreement that the kids would remain in New York for the time being.
In a statement to Page Six, the “Devotion” actor vehemently denied withholding their passports and “abducting” their daughters.
“This is an unfortunate legal disagreement about a marriage that is sadly ending,” Jonas’ rep said in a statement to Page Six at the time.
“When language like ‘abduction’ is used, it is misleading at best, and a serious abuse of the legal system at worst. The children were not abducted.”
Jonas filed for divorce on September 5th after four years of marriage, calling the union “irretrievably broken” in court documents.
“There are many speculative narratives as to why but, truly this is a united decision and we sincerely hope that everyone can respect our wishes for privacy for us and our children,” the estranged couple shared in a joint statement on Instagram the day after Jonas filed.
