Jennifer Anniston Claims ‘Friends’ Would Not Be ‘Appropriate’ for New Generation of kids

Actress Jennifer Anniston is looking back at her hit series Friends. The star was recently on a press junket claiming it may not be deemed appropriate by younger audiences.

With a cast like Courtney Cox, Jennifer Anniston, Lisa Kudrow, Matthew Perry and so much more, the hit series on NBC became one of the most popular TV shows of all time. However, the show Friends has come under fire for years for its lack of diversity, crude jokes at times, and much more that left fans questioning the series. The comedy show has been a part of a major cultural reexamination of television, with many people online discussing how this show would land if it premiered in this current day and age.

And on the press Junket for Anniston’s latest film Murder Mystery 2 the star opened up about the topic.

When asked on how people have been responding to the show over the years, Anniston stated “There’s a whole generation of people, kids, who are now going back to episodes of Friends and find them offensive. There were things that were never intentional and others… well, we should have thought it through, but I don’t think there was a sensitivity like there is now.”

This is the first time the actress touched on this topic, but she didn’t stop there.

The star continued saying that “comedy has evolved and movies have evolved”. She also went into detail saying “Now it’s a little tricky because you have to be very careful, which makes it really hard for comedians, because the beauty of comedy is that we make fun of ourselves, make fun of life.

A lot of people have waited for the stars to comment on the series for quite some time. Anniston not only addressed the issue, but gave her own personal stance.

The actress stated “You could joke about a bigot and have a laugh. That was hysterical. And it was about educating people on how ridiculous people were, and now we’re not allowed to do that. Everybody needs funny! The world needs humour! We can’t take ourselves too seriously. Especially in the United States. Everyone is far too divided.”

Some people online have their own mixed feelings to this statement from the actress, while others think this is being a bit stretched.

During the interview, Sandler also opened up about what comedies used to look like back in the day. While Anniston considered that the younger generation will look back at episodes of Friends as offensive, Sandler said the industry has drastically changed.

The Uncut Gems actor stated that comedies used to be given a little bit of budget, not a lot, and the team could do whatever they wanted with it.

People across the internet also saw the star for Murder Mystery 2 dressed in a hoodie and athletic pants at the premiere, which is his standard attire. Anniston scathed her co-stars as they walked the carpet.

And if you think we are joking, TikTok users have recorded videos of their run ins with the actor on the street and even at this IHOP. Even though these were of course situations in everyday life, many have noted this is how Sandler dresses no matter what the occasion.
