Jeffree Star Addresses His Racist Comments and James Charles’ Drama

2020 is a rough year for a lot of celebrities, including Jeffree Star and his friend Shane Dawson. Specifically, their past racist and sexist comments resurfaced after being caught fake supporting the #BlackLivesMatter movement. Then, fellow beauty YouTuber, Tati Westbrook, decided to reveal Jeffree and Shane’s involvement in James Charles’ drama last year. Tati’s video was posted on June 30. However, Jeffree had not yet responded to anything until July 18th, in his video “Doing What’s Right.”

Jeffree starts the video by saying he took the past two weeks to self-reflect and that was the reason he had been silent for so long. He then brings up his past video “Never doing this again,” reassuring he was sincere in what he said. Speaking of James Charles’ drama, Jeffree says he’s “not trying to take anyone down.” He admits it was his “fault” that he didn’t examine the evidence, call James Charles, and ask for verification.

After this, he personally apologizes to James Charles for his “words and actions.” Then, he moves on to say that the world has some other issues. As some examples, he mentions Breonna Taylor and the unjust facing by Black transwomen. Following this, he once again declares that Shane Dawson is “kind” and is still his “best friend.” Even though they don’t agree with each other’s past behaviors, they offer support to each other because Jeffree feels “forever grateful for people who always remind [him] of who [he is].” Jeffree expresses how proud he is to “own an inclusive makeup company,” citing the variety of shades and colors his company provides. In the end, he asserts his excitement for his company’s future and he thanks people for offering support.

The comments are turned off under his video. However, people are showing various reactions on Twitter. As always, Jeffree Star’s fans support him, forgive him, and are willing to give him the chance to learn. On the other hand, people are criticizing his intentions in making this video. They are questioning why Shane Dawson, Jeffree Star Cosmetics, Jeffree’s past homelessness, and Breonna Taylor are mentioned in one video.

Jeffree Star bringing up blm and the injustices in the black/trans community in his video is the grossest form of manipulation and deflection I’ve ever seen.

It’s a trend.

The energy is very much

Standing by you 100% ppl make mistakes. We are all human. I have said and done some stupid, mean, hurtful things in my past, but we learn and we grow from it. Hope your doing well!

Jeffree star mentioning black lives matter pissed me off in a different way. That shit was so manipulative and conniving. He didn't link one resource but used black people YET AGAIN as a token. But I do see he turned those comments off because people were seeing through his BS.
