Gordon Ramsay Facts You Probably Didn’t Know About
When he isn’t trending on social media and making the news, Gordon Ramsay is usually being shown on a television network somewhere. The British chef is a global name after rising to stardom due to his delicious food, but also because of his ability to tear into people who aren’t quite delivering what he expects.
The Scottish chef has 17 Michelin stars to his various restaurants over the years, although all of his establishments currently hold seven Michelin stars between them. While his restaurant businesses also hog the limelight somewhat, Ramsay is known for being a family man, a keen soccer enthusiast, and loads more. In fact, there is evidently more to the hot-headed chef than meets the eye.
With that in mind, let’s take a look at a selection of interesting facts about the star of the small screen.
He has 58 restaurants
At the time of writing, Gordon Ramsay’s restaurant empire stands at 58. From London and Las Vegas to China and Malaysia, Ramsay’s delicious creations are satisfying the tastebuds of diners around the world. While some of his restaurants have been forced to close down due to a variety of issues, Ramsay’s extensive collection of eateries are doing well overall and continue to serve up a range of tasty offerings to discerning diners.
Ramsay was close to becoming a professional soccer player
After being snapped up by Glasgow Rangers at the age of 15, Ramsay – like so many young soccer stars of the same age – wanted to become a professional soccer player. While he showed promise and was rated highly by the Scottish giants, a serious knee injury ended his dreams of becoming a soccer star. Speaking on his cruel career-ending injury, Ramsay said: “It was a heart-ache. I still love football, though, and I think cooking is like football. It’s not a job, it’s a passion.”
Ramsay became a head chef at 27 years old
While many people might think Gordon Ramsay has made his way onto our television screens due to his ability to reach boiling temperatures in seconds and shout profanities at contestants, the Scottish-born chef is actually extremely talented in the kitchen. In fact, after learning his trade in France among some of the best chefs in the business, Ramsay became head chef of the newly opened Aubergine restaurant in London at just 27. From there, his delightful cooking wowed diners and resulted in numerous awards for the restaurant, including earning a two-starred Michelin rating.
There is even a Gordon Ramsay’s Hell’s Kitchen game
Gordan Ramsey is the face of a number of leading cooking shows on television. Arguably one of his best, though, is Hell’s Kitchen. The success of the show has even resulted in the creation of Gordon Ramsay’s Hell’s Kitchen game, a popular 20-payline online slot developed by NetEnt that features the man himself, as well as the familiar red and blue sides that go to war in the television show. Not only does the game serve up plenty of delicious entertainment, but it highlights just how popular some of Gordon Ramsay’s shows have become.
He has five children
A proud family man, Gordon Ramsay is a loving father to five children. After being married to his wife, Tana, for 26 years, the pair have managed to create a lovely family together consisting of Megan, 22, twins Holly Anna and Jack, aged 20, Matilda, who is 19, and Oscar, who is the youngest of the tribe at the age of three. The couple are even considering having their sixth child. Ramsay recently said: “She’s not pregnant, but we are contemplating.”
