Former That’s So Raven Star Kyle Massey Has Been Charged with a Felony

Former Disney star Kyle Massey, known for his involvement with shows such as That’s So Raven has recently been charged with a felony for sending pornographic photographs to an underage girl who is 13 years old. Legal documents state that he is being charged for sending explicit photographs, videos, and messages to the 13-year-old in 2018 and 2019.

The teenager, who will remain unnamed, and her family had sued Massey in 2019 for $1.5 million, where Massey’s lawyers denied the charges completely. TMZ notes that the civil case did not go anywhere because the family’s lawyer did not believe Massey did not have enough money. The family then went to King County Sherrif’s office, who began their investigation in 2020. The mother of the teen had a thumb drive of the alleged material that Massey had sent them. Massey believes that this is coming from a place of revenge, since the original case did not go anywhere.

Massey’s attorney claims that Massey was informed of the charges through media. He maintains his innocence.

Massey’s connection to the teenager

Apparently, Massey had known the girl since she was as young as 4 years old and had been staying in contact as the girl hoped to be an actress similar to Massey. The lawsuit also mentions how Massey had wanted and offered the girl to travel to stay with him and his girlfriend to help her look for talent agents.

Massey has yet to give a statement but asks his fans to not “jump to conclusions based on the allegations alone but reserve judgment until the whole story comes to light, proving these allegations baseless” when the first allegations came to light in 2019. Massey also did not show for his arraignment in Washington on Monday. He did, however, show up to an event for promotions with popular rapper Da Baby and his collaboration with BoohooMAN.

Twitter’s Response

Many on the internet respond with jokes or memes to serious things such as this, especially since Massey is not the first former Disney or Nickelodeon star to be exposed for inappropriate interactions with minors.

Many are upset that the stars they looked up to while growing up and watching them on television have now revealed themselves to be people who take their power and use it against others, especially young children. Some joke that they are upset that a show that Massey starred in, Corey in the House, will probably never make its way to Disney+ due to the inappropriate content. Though these memes can bring relief, it is important to note the real lives that are affected by these situations.
