Fans Spotted TikTok Creator and Actress Kirby Johnson in Prime Video’s “Daisy Jones & the Six”
Daisy Jones & the Six debuted last week on Amazon Prime Video to chart topping viewership, with the fictional band’s real album Aurora topping the iTunes chart during the week of its release. The show follows a fictional 70s rock band’s rise to fame amid tumultuous personal relationships within the band, and is loosely based on the real life story of Fleetwood Mac. Taylor Jenkins Reid, the author of the novel on which the show is based, serves as an executive producer on the show, alongside Reese Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter. Witherspoon’s production company, Hello Sunshine, been known for adapting books for television and film, notably with Where the Crawdads Sing in 2022.
The show’s stellar period accurate fashion and energetic 70s inspired soundtrack have brought in viewers and readers alike. The source material was a Book-Tok favorite on TikTok over the past few years, with countless book reviewers offering praise on the platform. This in mind, it seems only fitting that another TikTok creator be featured in the television adaptation. Kirby Johnson has 2.8 million followers on TikTok, where she mostly shares advice on how to break into acting, and humorous stories about her life and relationship with fellow actor Luke Eisner, who starred in Netflix’s Tall Girl franchise.
Fans were excited to see Johnson in the brief scene she appears in on the Los Angeles-set series.
Johnson posted a video about what her audition process for the role was like, and explained how aspiring actors can go about booking similar roles. She even shared her self tape, in which she practices for her brief interaction with a band member when they hear their song on her car radio in the show.
Johnson’s small but pivotal scene was featured in the trailer for this week’s three episodes of the show, which Johnson shared with her followers just before their release.
TikTok has proven a driving force in the book-to-screen adaptation world. One of Taylor Jenkins Reid’s other novels, The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, also recently began the adaptation process. Irish author Sally Rooney’s novels have also been turned into two TV series, Normal People, which starred Oscar nominated actor Paul Mescal and Golden Globe nominated actress Daisy Edgar Jones, and Conversations with Friends, which notably starred Joe Alwyn. Colleen Hoover is another Book-Tok favorite, and her novel It Ends With Us recently announced Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni as its film adaptation stars. The positive fan and critic reaction to Daisy Jones & the Six is likely what drove the adaptation process.
The show’s 70s homage offers an inside look into many of the real-world issues that faced the entertainment issue during the tumultuous decade–from addiction to gender inequality in music. New episodes of Daisy Jones & The Six drop on Amazon Prime Video every Friday.
