Fan Finds Rare 1943 Penny in Viral TikTok DIY Video

Jordan Darian, the co-founder of a female-focused CBD brand has just gone viral after posting her home renovation DIY on Tik-Tok. Darian, who is an active creator, likes to spend her time remodeling and renovating her home in West Hollywood, California that she and her husband purchased back in 2018. She states in her Tik Tok video, “It took her 16 hours to penny the floor, I used Elmer’s glue to secure the pennies. I sealed the floor with epoxy resin it cost around $300 dollars. The bathroom smells delightful since the pennies are sealed with resin.” We all know what a handful of pennies smell like and we are glad she was able to serve change to her bathroom. Moments after she posted her Tik-Tok a fan commented and said “The 1943 penny in the floor.”

According to definition.org, “In 1943 the U.S was in a bit of a copper shortage due to World War II efforts. Any defense product used in the war quickly needed a substitute.” Since the value of copper was in high demand, they stopped making pennies from out of it and turned to the use of steel, but since they were similar to dimes, it gave working-class Americans a hard time telling the difference. “Depending on the condition of it, the 1943 copper penny can be worth anywhere from $60,000 to $85,000.” In fact, a copper 1943 penny was sold at the Heritage Auctions just in January 2019 for $200,000 smackeroos. Talk about some serious change.

The Darian’s may have just been renovating, but if it is true the 1943 copper-alloy penny is resting on their bathroom floor. They may have just added some serious value to their home. It’s not like they can’t remove it if need be but the added value gives it an aesthetic that may make their house more valuable than they could’ve imagined. Penny for your thoughts?
