Elon Musk Will Announce New Twitter CEO This Month

After multi-billionaire tech entrepreneur Elon Musk bought Twitter in 2022, the app has seen a tumultuous journey. Now, Musk announced that a new female CEO will take the reins of the social media giant. His role will transition to Executive Chair and Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of the company. Naturally, he announced the news via a tweet.

From the end of legacy verification to the alleged spread of misinformation and Twitter Blue, the social giant’s users have expressed their concern for the platform. In response to the several ethical and tech issues that have risen, Twitter’s founder Jack Dorsey soft launched a competitor platform called Bluesky. Dorsey and engineers formatted the app similarly to Twitter, and early users report that it functions similarly to the original platform.

Amid today’s announcement, Twitter users are casting guesses about who the new CEO might be.

Other Twitter users are celebrating Musk’s announcement about stepping down as CEO. Musk’s personal support of several controversial figures in politics, notably Donald Trump, is what led to many users assuming that he would pave the way for hate speech on the platform. A new CEO could mean better ethical protections against misinformation and hate speech.

Others pointed out that it is interesting that Musk announced his stepping down this week. The multi billionaire previously voiced support for conservative television host Tucker Carlson, who was recently fired from Fox News for his role in the Dominion Voting Systems lawsuit. Musk additionally supported allowing former President Donald Trump back onto Twitter following his ban due to his alleged role in the January 6 Capitol Riot. Trump was convicted of sexual assault and defamation in a lawsuit from writer E. Jean Carroll this week.

What a New CEO Means For Twitter

As Musk is moving towards managing the company’s products and tech operations, a new CEO could mean big changes in regards to some of the app’s largest controversies. A source spoke to the Wall Street Journal about a potential new CEO, who is rumored to be NBCUniversal’s Linda Yaccarino.

Amid the announcement, some began posting photos of famously problematic women with captions falsely announcing the “new Twitter CEO.” Many included disgraced alleged sex trafficker and former girlfriend of Jeffrey Epstein Ghislaine Maxwell. A photograph of Maxwell alongside Musk frequently circulates on the platform whenever Musk’s ethics come into question.
