Dolly Parton Announces New Rock Album Featuring Stevie Nicks, Paul McCartney and More
Country legend Dolly Parton has announced a departure from her usual programming–a rock album, which she told Rolling Stone will feature her goddaughter, Miley Cyrus, Cher, Elton John, Sir Paul McCartney, and Stevie Nicks. The star-studded features and new genre venture come a few months after Parton was inducted into the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame, where she performed a new rock song for the occasion.
The album is set to include a duet performance of Miley Cyrus’ hit “Wrecking Ball,” which the pair first performed at their New Year’s Eve celebration in Miami in 2022.

In the past three years, Miley has released several classic rock covers, and even performed them live on tour. Miley previously worked with Stevie Nicks, now set to be one of Parton’s collaborators, on the song “Edge of Midnight, (Midnight Sky Remix)” on her 2020 album Plastic Hearts.
Dolly Parton’s lengthy career has gained her a fanbase that spans generations, both for her heartfelt lyrics and many philanthropic contributions. Earlier this week, she was honored as the recipient of the Christine King Farris Legacy of Service in Education reward on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Her Imagination Library offers books to young children in under served communities.

Some of Parton’s most iconic songs, including “9 to 5” and “Jolene,” have proven themselves to be viral hits in the digital age, with each racking in hundreds of thousands of viral TikTok videos in the past few years.

Many of the stars set for features on Dolly’s unnamed rock project have also had their viral moments recently. Cher, Dolly, and Stevie Nicks have all not only received internet recognition for their music, but for their timeless words of wisdom.
Cher’s feminist views recently got plenty of attention on TikTok.
As for Stevie, a 1997 performance of Fleetwood Mac’s “Silver Springs,” has captured the attention of many. Nicks famously wrote the song about her breakup with fellow Fleetwood Mac band member Lindsey Buckingham. The band’s Rumours album, which revolved around the band’s numerous interpersonal relationships, maintains to influence modern storytelling, and even Taylor Jenkins Reid’s novel (soon to be Amazon Prime miniseries) Daisy Jones and the Six.
Some fans even joke that the performance was so powerful that Nicks put a curse on Buckingham.
Many of Fleetwood Mac’s songs, including “Rhiannon” and “Dreams”, have also sparked viral trends in the past few years. Some even get inspired by Nicks’ 70s fashion style from early Fleetwood Mac tours.
Social media has only proven the classic rock genre’s lasting impact–especially that of female rock singers. Dolly delving into this genre is an unprecedented step, but one that generations of fans of her and her star studded collaborators are likely to enjoy. Each of the artists’ lengthy catalogues portray stories unique to their own lives in their youth, and the new album will likely come from a place of wisdom that is much needed in today’s world.
