Demi Lovato Announces She is Pansexual on Joe Rogan’s Podcast

Earlier this week, Demi Lovato, singer and actress, came out as pansexual on a podcast episode of The Joe Rogan Experience. Lovato went on the show to discuss her new documentary, upcoming album and previous engagement with Max Ehrich. It was then that she started talking about her “fluidity” with attraction. “I also don’t know if I’m going to end up with a guy, so I can’t really see myself getting pregnant,” she said to Rogan. “I’m so fluid now – and a part of the reason why I am so fluid is because I was super closeted off.”

According to the GLAAD website, pansexuality refers to someone who is “attracted to all genders and sexes, or regardless of gender and sex, and who identifies as pan.”

Rogan continued to ask her questions about her sexuality trying to get a clearer idea, and eventually brought up the term “pansexual.” Lovato replied with, “Yeah, pansexual.” She went on to say that she heard someone say a phrase that she liked even more. “I heard someone call the LGBTQIA+ community the ‘alphabet mafia,’ and I was like, ‘That’s it, That’s what I’m going with. I’m part of the alphabet mafia and proud.'”

Lovato also spoke on how the picnic scene from Cruel Intentions was the first time she noticed something in herself. “I was like, ‘Oh, I like that,’ but I felt a lot of shame because growing up in Texas as a Christian, that’s very frowned upon. Any attraction I had to a female at a young age, I shut it down before I even let myself process what I was feeling.”

Lovato had previously spoken up about her identity in a cover story with Glamour saying, “I know who I am and what I am, but I’m just waiting until a specific timeline to come out to the world as what I am.”

The singer also said in her Youtube documentary in 2017, that she was open to dating men and women. “I am open to human connection. So whether that’s through a male or female, it doesn’t matter to me.” In that same year, she came out to her parents, Dianna De La Garza and stepdad Eddie De La Garza.
