The Internet Reacts to the New Crazy Film ‘Cocaine Bear’

The internet is filled with debates about the future of cinema. Are you a Marvel fanboy or an A24 lover? Universal Pictures destroys the feud because we are all “Cocaine Bear” devotees. You heard that correctly, Universal is coming out with a comedy thriller about a bear that does cocaine(it’s fairly self-explanatory). The trailer for the film came out this week and the response has been a mix of excitement and utter confusion.

So the film directed by Elizabeth Banks follows a black bear on a murderous rampage after ingesting a ridiculous amount of cocaine and “a group of locals and tourists must join forces in order to survive the attack”. The trailer depicts the coked-out CGI’d bear mauling locals and chasing after an ambulance.

It’s subtly based on a true story of when a drug smuggler offloaded bags of cocaine over Georgia and a black bear consumed over 75 pounds of the illegal substance in 1985(no killing spree ensued thankfully). The real-life black bear passed and he was displayed in the Kentucky for Kentucky Fun Mall.

The real cocaine bear is on display at the Kentucky for Kentucky Fun Mall in Lexington. In 1985 it died in the Chattahoochee–Oconee National Forest after eating 75 pounds of cocaine that was dropped from a drug smuggler’s plane. The ensemble cast includes; Keri Russell, Ray Liotta, Matthew Rhys, Alden Ehrenreich, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Margo Martindale, Kristofer Hivju, Kahyun Kim, Christian Convery, Brooklynn Prince, and Scott Seiss.

This is the first film to be released after Ray Liotta’s passing last May.

Many Twitter users were delighted by the trailer and the frankness of the film’s title.

“Like “Snakes on a Plane” we should recognize that “Cocaine Bear” is a perfect movie title: it tells you everything you need to know, “tweets one user.

Some were awed by the film’s talent-packed cast. Russell, Rhys, and Martindale all starred in the FX series “The Americans”.
