Chrissy Teigen Deletes Twitter After Saying The Platform Serves Her Negatively
Model and cook book author Chrissy Teigen has officially decided to delete her Twitter account after 10 years on the platform.
With an earned following of 13.7 million followers, Teigen was well known on the platform as one of the only celebrities to get truly candid with hot topics, personal experiences, and hard hitting issues. She was famously caught up in a twitter war with former President Trump as he continuously tweeted about her during his time in office calling her “boring” and John Legend’s “filthy mouthed wife.” She also shared her battle with having a miscarriage when her baby boy was stillborn last October. Her followers felt like they could relate to Teigen because she portrayed herself as a normal person, not the typical celebrity in Hollywood.
In a series of now deleted tweets, Teigen expressed her feelings towards the harsh criticism she has been receiving from users and announcing her goodbye.
“Hey. For over 10 years, you guys have been my world. I honestly owe so much to this world we have created here. I truly consider so many of you my actual friends. But it’s time for me to say goodbye. This no longer serves me as positively as it serves me negatively, and I think that’s the right time to call something,” she wrote.
She goes on to say that even though her reputation on the platform has been “the strong clap back girl,” that isn’t the actual case.
Teigen recently faced heavy backlash when it was announced on Tuesday that she was launching a line of plant-based cleaning products with Kris Jenner. Many people were not happy that she was collaborating with the Kardashians, who have been controversial themselves in the past.
Love you but don’t like you getting involved with that family. Does not fit with your brand. And how much money do they need? I find them revolting and an example of what is wrong with the country. You are better than this. Sad to see this.

Sorry, not putting a penny into a Jenner/Kardashian pocket.

The hateful comments that Teigen has received throughout the years that led to her departure has sparked a conversation among Twitter users.
“Chrissy Teigen quitting Twitter is a really, really bad reflection on the company’s ability to fight abuse. She wasn’t just some famous person. She was a power user, and a fan favorite internally. This one will sting,” tweeted Bloomberg reporter Kurt Wagner.
Twitter was a large part of Teigen’s platform. So much so, she had spoken as Twitter’s company retreat last year, jokingly calling herself “the unofficial mayor of Twitter.”

Twitter has also faced a lot of backlash concerning their lack of action towards their policies on harassment. People are now debating if the platform will ever do anything that will improve the website as a safer space for users.
