Celebs Take To The Streets To Protest
The past week has seen a national uprising and many people, including some of our favorite celebrities, have taken to the streets to protest the killing of George Floyd by police officers.
Among these are celebrities such as Ariana Grande, Timothee Chamalet, Halsey, Zendaya and many others. Ariana Grande peacefully protested along with her boyfriend Dalton Gomez and spoke of her experience saying “People beeped and cheered along. We were passionate, we were loud, we were loving.”
Actress Tessa Thompson participated in the Los Angeles Black Lives Matter protest and tweeted “I can say that the #LosAngelesProtest was entirely peaceful until the [Los Angeles Police Department] arrived and escalated it.”
Celeb couple Shawn Mendes and Camilla Cabello, who have been social distancing together in Florida, attended a protest in Miami holding black lives matter signs. Halsey joined the protests in L.A. with Yungblud where she tweeted that police officers were firing rubber bullets.

Cole Sprouse revealed through an instagram post that he was arrested while protesting peacefully with others in Santa Monica, California. “We were given the option to leave, and were informed that if we did not retreat, we would be arrested. When many did turn to leave, we found another line of police officers blocking our route, at which point, they started zip tying us,” said Sprouse, adding, “It needs to be stated that as a straight white man, and a public figure, the institutional consequences of my detainment are nothing in comparison to others within the movement.”
Also protesting in Santa Monica was Madison Beer who held a”Black Lives Matter” sign. Beer tweeted, “I WAS JUST TEAR GASSED THEY ARE ARRESTING EVERYONE AND TEAR GASSING ALL CROWDS.” Timothee Chalamet joined those kneeling at the Santa Monica Pier and took to social media to vocalize his support for the movement.
In a now viral video, Kiki Palmer asked a group of National Guard members to march alongside her and other protestors in unity saying “Let the revolution be televised, march beside us and show us that you’re here for us. Make history with us, please!” Despite repeated requests, the National Guard members refused to leave their posts. However, when a protestor asked them to take a knee, they agreed, which led to the protestors and Guard members kneeling together. NBC’s Gadi Schwartz captured the occurrence, which can be seen in this video.
