Caitlyn Jenner Is Considering To Run For Governor Of California

Reality tv star and former Olympic champion Caitlyn Jenner is considering to run for governor of California according to Axios reports. The 71 year-old athlete turned to political consultants to examine the likelihood of his candidacy. The aim is to replace California Gov. Gavin Newsom in a recall election.

The Keeping Up With The Kardashians star is reportedly aided by longtime Republican fundraiser Caroline Wren, who participated in a rally organized for Trump on January 6th. Jenner has openly identified herself as Republican, supporting Trump throughout his four years in office and voting for him back in 2016. In 2018 however she did criticize his stance towards transgender people and how she was wrong to think Trump would help the community.

“The reality is that the trans community is being relentlessly attacked by this president,” Jenner said at the time. “The leader of our nation has shown no regard for an already marginalized and struggling community. He has ignored our humanity. He has insulted our dignity.”

Decades after becoming a gold medal-winning decathlete and starring on Keeping Up With The Kardashians, Jenner came out as a trans woman in 2015, years after her longtime success on the show which she later wasn’t a part of.

In 2017, according to USA Today, Jenner considered running for Senate in California as she weighed down the possibilities of accomplishing more by “working the perimeter of the political scene” or “from the inside.” Her manager however denied those speculations saying that she has “never considered it.”

History Potentially Repeating Itself

Caitlyn Jenner is looking to challenge Democratic governor Gavin Newsom in a recall election together with other Republicans. Former California Gov. Gray Davis (D), Axios stated, faced a recall in 2003, resulting in Arnold Schwarzenegger replacing him. Politico’s Alex Thompson noted that Jenner’s attempt is “Not quite Schwarzenegger level, but would be something.”

A potential echo of what happened 18 years ago may be repeated. Democrat Gray Davis was the first governor to be recalled in state history, and the one who took over was terminator Schwarzenegger. More than 130 people challenged Davis including late pornographer Larry Flynt, actor Gary Coleman, and author Arianna Huffington. The candidacy that attracted the most global media attraction however had to be Arnold Schwarzenegger. His win came about despite accusations that he had history of treating women disrespectfully.

“It’s more substantial than Gary Coleman but not nearly as substantial as Arnold Schwarzenegger,” said Rob Stutzman, former GOP strategist and Schwarzenegger’s longtime advisor, about Jenner’s possible run.

“I don’t know if this would be considered a game-changer. What Newsom’s team has to worry about is the recall now going into the realm of tabloid media…

“When political campaigns start being executed in the People magazine realm,” he noted, “it can create unpredictable dynamics.”

Twitter Disapproves 

Twitter users took Jenner’s thought of running as governor mostly as a joke, as people believe she is not suited to carry down such an important role. Comments began getting heated when the transgender community was brought into the discussion. According to one user, she is not a good representation for the community who is “diverse in background and thought.” Also, being a previous Trump supporter added weight to people’s disapproval, automatically disqualifying her from consideration.
