BTS Visits the White House and Fans Were Losing it On Twitter

The incredibly popular K-pop group BTS visited the White House on the last day of May, a month designated as Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. The South Korean band has millions of fans across the world, who are known as “the army” and is known for causing BTS to trend online quite frequently. Though the band members are not the first musicians to visit the White House and meet President Biden, it was quite a big deal to the fans at home. The group came to discuss “the importance of addressing anti-Asian hate crimes and discrimination.”

On May 31, @bts_bighit visited the White House for AANHPI month. The group joined @PressSec for a briefing before meeting with @POTUS for a discussion on the importance of addressing anti-Asian hate crimes and discrimination.

According to The Washington Post, live streams from White House briefings usually attract a few hundred people, but this one brought “a whopping 197,000” proving the importance that BTS has to many fans and where the excitement online came from. Hundreds of fans also waited outside the White House gates. “Proud is indeed an understatement when it comes to BTS. They have come really far and have paved the way in every possibility,” one fan Tweeted.

Although it seemed everyone in the U.S. anticipated BTS’ arrival at the White House and enjoyed the touching speech members gave about inequality, not everybody was pleased, including Tucker Carlson. On his show on Fox News, he says ” Things have gotten very bad for Joe Biden, both public-facing and internally. What are they doing about it? Well, they broke the glass in case of emergency and invited a Korean pop group to speak at the White House today.” He also mentions that “Yep, they hate the country and they’re trying to degrade it. … And it’s working.”

As per usual, BTS fans were not having it. Underneath the Tweet Carlson posted of his comments towards BTS, fans flooded with replies underneath. “So the most influential band in the world speaks about Asian hate because their words actually make a difference and that’s bad? but you work for Fox and support Trump, and are what, US savior? You are WHAT IS WRONG in the US. Stop hating on BTS,” one fan wrote. Others noted that messing with BTS is definitely the wrong move as they have a massive online presence. “Have you ever seen someone casually walk into a colossal mistake?” one person noted.
