In a world filled with Kardashians and Nicki Minajs, it’s no wonder why people are going to drastic measures to change the way they look. From lip fillers, to butt injections – there’s a type of surgery out there for everyone, to turn you from average into insta-worthy. However, behind these surgeries aren’t just ‘miraculous’ transformations, but gut-wrenching disasters that have started a world wide epidemic.
According to the British Association of Aesthetic (BAAPS) and Plastic Surgeons, there is one type of surgery that is the worst of them all. Brazilian Butt Lifts. You may have heard of it, as it’s a pretty popular procedure, but professionals have warned that it carries some very dangerous risks, especially when done abroad. Unfortunately, for 29-year-old, Leah Cambridge, the surgery ended in her death.

A spokesperson for the BAAPS, said that, ‘the surgery has the highest death rate of all procedures and due to the risk of injecting fat into large veins…it can travel to the heart or brain and cause severe illness and death.”
Leah travelled over to Turkey to get the surgery done, as it’s much cheaper and easily accessible abroad. Despite Cambridge’s partner constantly telling her that she didn’t need surgery, Leah wasn’t listening. If you were to get this surgery in the UK, it would cost anywhere between £6,500 – £10,000 ($8,500 – $13,000). However, in Turkey, it only costs £3,000 ($4,000). Although it’s still pretty expensive, it’s a much smaller price to pay for a long awaited surgical procedure, that many could only dream of…

So far, 32 patients have died as a result of this surgery, and the figure is only going to rise unless people are made aware of the dangers that it causes. There are so many other ways to get the body you desire, which are healthy and natural. It’s not worth the price if it’s going to risk your life.
